Job purpose The Staff Accountant provides financial and accounting assistance to Career Prep High Schools Duties and responsibilitiesInclude, but are not limited to:Coordinates the credit card program for all schools, including monitoring monthly spending, collecting all purchase receipt details, ensuring distribution of new cards as needed and maintain recordsMakes necessary journal entries to an automated general ledger system from a variety of sources, including payroll, STRS/SERS, grants, postage usage, accounts receivable, and account payablePrepares monthly reconciliations, including bank accounts, accounts payable and accounts receivableParticipates in month-end and year-end closing processes, including the preparation and recording of journal entries and accrualsPerforms various banking transactions as directed by the ControllerInvestigate budget and variance issuesAssists in the annual audit processEnters invoices into QuickBooks in a timely manner and performs weekly check runs and check distributionsAssist HR/Payroll from time to time with various tasksMaintains all contract and service agreements from all vendors, independent contractors and others performing various work for the companiesOversees the check request, expense report and travel reimbursement policies programsGathers and analyzes financial information and identifies and resolves problems in a timely mannerCoordinates and completes projects on time and within budget, and oversees project team activitiesPerforms other finance related duties as needed or directed by ControllerRequirementsQualificationsBachelor’s Degree in accounting or another related field preferredAt least two years of experience and training in accounting, finance, payables, receivables, or grantsProficient in computer applications, including Google, MS Office Suite, e-mail, and internet applicationsSatisfactory completion of state and federal required criminal history checksAbility to travel as neededKnowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal CharacteristicsAbility to handle confidential information responsibly and exhibit sound judgmentAbility to manage difficult or emotional client situationsTeam building skills; organizational and staff development skillsExcellent written and oral communication skillsAbility to work well under pressure, effectively prioritizing and executing tasks to meet deadlines consistentlyCustomer service oriented; analytical ability to interpret and explain complex instructionsAbility to learn new technologies and acquire new skills through independent study, professional training, and from more senior team membersAbility to translate business requirements into technical specificationsWorking Conditions and Physical RequirementsSitting for extended periods of timeAbility to move around the buildingOn call availabilityDexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and to handle other computer componentsPhysical ability to lift up to 25 poundsThis is not necessarily an all-inclusive list of job-related responsibilities, duties, skills, efforts, requirements or working conditions.
