Objective: Part-time position to provide direct on-site advocacy services to victim/ survivors of domestic and violence in the hospital or clinic settings as well as crisis/non-crisis advocacy including referrals to shelter and community agencies to access mainstream resources.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
· Provide onsite crisis/non-crisis advocacy services to victim/survivors of domestic violence in the emergency room, hospital, and medical setting.
· Provide victim/survivor education on the dynamics of domestic violence, power and control wheel, and cycle of violence.
· Offer supportive counseling, and safety planning.
· Explain options available for assisting in filing criminal charges, and Protection from Abuse Orders.
· Refer clients to other agencies and mainstream community resources and advocate directly with other agencies as needed to help client access necessary services.
· Maintain service partnerships with referral agencies.
· Conduct shelter client assessments and intakes. Orientate clients to shelter and shelter guidelines.
· Assure that appropriate shelter guidelines are practiced.
· Assist clients in identifying and fulfilling personal and service needs.
· Comply with all agency policies and safety procedures. Document shelter happenings and client activities as necessary.
· Oversee shelter environment and activities, facilitate problem solving for in-house conflicts and crises.
· Encourage and model appropriate shelter interactions.
· Mediate on behalf of residential clients when appropriate.
· Provide appropriate follow-up and documentation of emergency incidents or non-compliance of shelter guidelines.
· Participate in staff meetings, case conferences and other meetings as needed.
· Provide personal advocacy outreach services to residents who have exited shelter.
· Provide any and all shelter support as directed by Supervisor Program Director, Executive Director or Chief Executive Officer.

QUALIFICATIONS:
· A Bachelor’s Degree in human services or related field or equivalent work or volunteer experience and training preferred.
· Must work well with persons of varied sexual preference, racial, ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic backgrounds, and with individuals who are differently-abled.
· Awareness of relationship violence, child abuse, stalking, and sexual abuse and assault preferred.
· Knowledge of counseling and advocacy techniques for people who have been victims of domestic violence, including crisis intervention and case management skills beneficial.
· Previous employment or volunteer work in human services, community agencies or other related nonprofit or social change organizations a plus.
· Good oral and written communication and computer skills are required.
· Bilingual (Spanish/English) speaker preferred but not required.
· Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
· Must be willing to travel to local hospital and area clinics to meet with victims.
· Position requires the ability to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends and on-call scheduling.
