Freedom of the Press Foundation (FPF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting, defending and empowering public-interest journalism, is hiring a Social Media Editor to support the execution of our audience strategy and communications, working across teams to grow outreach to further the impact of our work.
This position collaborates across all programs and teams to ensure that FPF's advocacy campaigns, digital security expertise, technology projects and press freedom reporting achieve maximum visibility and reach. Through collaboration with internal stakeholders, the Social Media Editor will be part of a team that executes our strategy for sustained audience growth across platforms, including newsletters, web, audio/visual and social media. This role will manage media partnerships, support media interviews and maintain the press lists, including tracking media requests.
Furthermore, the Social Media Editor will be hands-on in implementing FPF's audience outreach strategies. A successful candidate will have excellent news judgment, the ability to work independently and proactively, and a commitment to press freedom.
As FPF's Social Media Editor, you're passionate about press freedom and newsgathering rights, have a nuanced understanding of audience analytics and data, and are eager to make these essential topics engaging for a growing audience.

This is a full-time role with a competitive nonprofit salary in the range of $80-95k, depending on experience and location. This position reports to FPF's deputy director of audience and will preferably be based in FPF's Brooklyn headquarters, however, strong U.S.-based remote candidates will also be considered. For all locations, quarterly in-person team meetings are considered part of the role.
This role does not require U.S. Citizenship, but you must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. to be considered. FPF does not sponsor employees for work authorization at this time, and the selected candidate will be required to submit a proof of authorization.
FPF provides health, dental and vision insurance (via Aetna); 20 days of personal time off, in addition to all federal holidays and the week between Christmas and New Year's; paid parental leave and a generous 401(k) program. Freedom of the Press Foundation matches your 401(k) contributions dollar-for-dollar, up to 4% of your gross salary.
