Fountain Valley School, a selective and diverse boarding school, educates 250 students in grades 9–12 on a beautiful 1,100-acre campus in Colorado Springs, CO. Founded in 1930, the School provides a rigorous, global curriculum in academics, arts, athletics, and the outdoors.
The Opportunity:
Fountain Valley School seeks experienced and dynamic educators for a music teaching and choral directing position. This position reports directly to the chair of the fine arts department, and is responsible for teaching classes to students in 9-12 grade.
This music instructor will recruit and direct the upper school choir, which rehearses several times a week. This instructor will develop a repertoire that is appropriate for the abilities of the students involved, but which is also constantly seeking to develop their skills. This instructor will work with the department chair and others in the music program to develop the repertoire, prepare for and assist in organizing concerts, and support performances at other vocal, theater, or dance events as required. This position may include teaching of other classes such as music theory and/or oversight or a private music lessons program.
General Duties:
● Teach 2 sections of music classes each semester including choir
● Collaborate with department members to produce fall, winter and spring concerts
● Serve as the music director of the winter musical in collaboration with the theater director
● Demonstrate an ability to foster sustained collaboration and professional growth within a department
● Show an appreciation for the craft of teaching along with a passion for music as a discipline

● Experience enhancing classroom learning with appropriate music instruction tools
● Demonstrate cultural competency and skills engaging with and learning from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences
● Demonstrate skills in communication and interpersonal relations within and across multiple constituencies
● Bachelor’s degree with a major in music; advanced degree or equivalent experience in an independent boarding/day school environment preferred
● Strong piano playing ability to accompany the choir and other ensembles
Working Conditions:
● Environment: office and indoor classroom working with some outdoor events
● Physical demands: able to sit and stand for at least 8 hours per day; must be able to lift 40 lbs.
● Proficiency in LMS Blackbaud OnCampus and Google Educational Suite Apps preferred
Salary Range: $20,000 - 26,000 depending on experience and degrees
