Forward Slash Technology is Hiring a Junior Systems Administrator Near St. Louis, MO

Forward Slash Technology (FST) is a St. Louis-based information technology managed services and telecommunications provider, offering a wide variety of voice, data and security services. Our company helps businesses prepare and develop an IT plan and budget, determine the best Internet Service Provider, select appropriate hardware and offer IT support services. We are NOT a staffing company.

This position will support end users relating to Information Technology infrastructure components. The Junior Systems Administrator will perform a variety of technical tasks.

Responsibilities include the following.

System Setup & Maintenance

  • Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of hardware and software systems.
  • Carry out routine system updates and patches under the guidance of senior administrators.
  • Monitor system performance and address basic performance issues.

User Support

  • Provide first-line technical support to end-users, addressing hardware and software issues.
  • Collaborate with senior system administrators to troubleshoot and resolve user problems.
  • Assist in managing user accounts, permissions, and access controls.
  • Provide on-site support, when required, for workstation setup and/or systems troubleshooting.

Network Support

  • Provide support in setting up and maintaining the organization's computer networks.
  • Assist in troubleshooting network issues and ensuring network security measures are in place.
  • Monitor network performance and report issues to senior system administrators.

Server Assistance

  • Support senior system administrators in managing servers, including file servers, email servers, and web servers.
  • Participate in server configuration and optimization activities.
  • Contribute to the implementation of backup and recovery procedures.

Security Support

  • Assist in implementing and maintaining security measures to protect systems and data.
  • Monitor security incidents and report findings to senior administrators.

Backup & Recovery Assistance

  • Support the development and implementation of backup and recovery procedures.
  • Assist in testing and verifying backups to ensure data integrity.

Documentation & Inventory

  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of system documentation.
  • Assist in keeping an updated inventory of hardware and software.

Collaboration with IT Team

  • Collaborate with other IT professionals, learning from senior system administrators, network engineers, and security specialists.
  • Participate in projects and initiatives that involve multiple IT components.
  • Collaborate on troubleshooting and problem-solving activities.

Monitoring & Reporting

  • Assist in monitoring system performance and contribute to corrective actions.
  • Report on system performance and suggest improvements.

Training & Learning

  • Actively engage in training opportunities to enhance technical skills.
  • Seek opportunities for professional development within the field.

Automation Support

  • Assist in the development and implementation of scripts or automation tools for routine tasks.
  • Learn and apply automation techniques under the guidance of senior sysadmins.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Basic understanding of computer systems, networks, and server administration.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team and follow established procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of security best practices.
  • Familiarity with scripting or automation is a plus.

Specific Requirements

To maintain employment with our company, by mandate, each employee MUST complete and have the following.

  • Must be able to pass a MSHP/Federal fingerprint-based background check (no felonies)
  • Must complete training for and pass CJIS test
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must have a valid US driver's license with a clean driving record

Job Specifics

  • This is a full-time, Monday through Friday, salaried position.
  • This job is located at our Town & Country office (near the Manchester & 270 intersection).
  • Working remotely is NOT available for this position.
