JOB OVERVIEW

The Director, Marketing & Communications is responsible for planning, development, and implementation of all the Organization’s marketing strategies, communications, and public relations activities, both external and internal. This role is responsible for overseeing the public relations agency, developing and executing the brand strategy, driving lead generation, supporting policy communications, enhancing our customer experience program, and enhancing and executing on our community engagement program. The Director, Marketing & Communications will work closely with U.S. and Mexico business units to support relevant goals and objectives. The ideal candidate is a player-coach who can handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, and who can bring fresh and innovative ideas to the table.

JOB LOCATION AND REPORTING TO

This position will be based in our San Francisco office or for the right candidate as a remote position. The Director, Marketing & Communications reports to the SVP, Sales & Marketing and works closely with the Sales, Development, Asset Management, Advisory, and Strategy teams. This person will manage direct reports who manage programs including customer experience, RFP submissions and competitive intelligence, events, and CRM management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strategic Planning
    • Develops and implements a comprehensive marketing strategy that aligns with Forefront Power's overall business and marketing goals and objectives.
    • Oversees the development of marketing plans and is responsible to guide marketing efforts across all key regions within the US and Mexico, ensuring alignment with the marketing strategy while accounting for regional nuances.
    • Develop and manage marketing budget.
    • Report on marketing impact to ForeFront Power’s Executive Committee in the form of campaign metrics, return on marketing investment, proposal results, and more.
    Brand Management
    • Lead brand development and management, ensuring consistency and resonance with the target audience.
    • Develop marketing campaigns in partnership with regional sales teams to drive new business and build brand awareness.
    • Deliver comprehensive suite of sales materials and support documentation for new businesses.
    • Lead the strategy and generation of engaging digital content for ForeFront Power’s website, social media and email channels that leads to measurable action.
    • Work closely with existing customers and sales teams to build customer success stories and provide added value in the form of energy curriculum materials, speaking engagements, photo and video content, and sales collateral.
    • Lead event participation and sponsorship decisions for conferences, ribbon cuttings, and industry trade organizations to advance the presence of the company as a thought leader.
    • Create and maintain paid and owned content assets (websites, slide decks, newsletters, brochures, case studies, white papers, videos, photos, advertising campaigns and sponsorship, etc.)
    Public Relations
    • Manage corporate communications and messaging via press releases, website development, and media outreach.
    • Guide the strategy on press outreach, including messaging in press releases, creation of press kits and materials, interview preparation, and responses to media requests in conjunction with our public relations agency.
    Market Research
    • Oversee market research and competitive analyses, determining brand positioning and target audiences. 
    Team Leadership
    • Build and lead a high-performing marketing team.
    • Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of professional experience, including leading the communications, marketing, social media and public relations activities of a high-growth organization
  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred in the areas of communications and a marketing related field (e.g. marketing, business administration, management, advertising, journalism, and/or communications)
  • Advanced understanding of B2B marketing, digital and traditional marketing, promotions, event marketing, PR, and energy policy.
  • Strong writing, editing and content development skills
  • Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational and personal skills, with the experience of managing multiple projects at a time
  • Excellent people skills, with experience collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team
  • Extremely proficient Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills.
  • Proficiency or experience in Adobe Creative Suite, including Adobe InDesign and Illustrator.
  • Proficiency or experience in website development and hosting, with working knowledge of html, css, Javascript, and standard CMS frameworks (ex. Wordpress)
  • Ability to manage and plan usage of a corporate CRM (ex. HubSpot)
  • Prior experience working in renewables, transportation, and/or climate tech preferred.
  • Prior knowledge in graphic design skills; basic web design and/or coding skills, skills in SEO, project management is a plus.
  • Familiarity with solar technologies and related electrical equipment including vendor, products, technical specifications, utility and commercial standards, and applicable codes is a plus.
  • Ability to interface smoothly at senior management levels internally and externally
  • Ability to deal with inconsistent work and pace due to varied deadlines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position is primarily sedentary in nature and requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk in front of a computer. This position may require 5-25% travel. The Director, Marketing & Communications should be comfortable traveling to various sites including construction sites and being around heavy equipment.
