Job Description Summary
The Respiratory Resource Coordinator’s primary function will be the facilitation of the daily workflow of the team, coordinating and monitoring all activity and ensuring the delivery of quality patient care during a specific shift. The coordinator works directly under the supervision of the department manager with duties carried out and guided by the hospital and department’s policy, procedures and protocols. When required, the coordinator will deliver general respiratory patient care and diagnostic testing according to the physician’s orders.Job Description
The Respiratory Resource Coordinator will:
Daily Operations
Oversee the distribution of the daily patient care assignment as well as other shift activities
Supports staff in the delivery of general respiratory patient care and diagnostic testing according to physician orders
Assures appropriate levels of staffing for current and oncoming shift
Updates tool used to track all patients on respiratory services
Coordinates work flow during the shift to ensure departmental commitments and standards of quality patient care are met
Provides supervision during assigned shift and serves as technical and clinical resource for department staff
Quality Assurance
Participates in the collection and gathering of data from patients medical record as assigned
Participates in the development of professional standards
Participates in equipment trials
Participates in departments ongoing quality assurance program
Compiles data for operational reports and analyses setting forth progress, trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
Departmental Effectiveness
Functions in the role of department liaison during the course of the shift
Attends and takes part in interdisciplinary patient rounds with medical staff
Represents the department on select committees and projects as assigned by the manager
Assist in the development of department goals
Identifies and recommends service improvement initiatives
Compiles data for operational reports and analyses setting forth progress, trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
Performs all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab.
Supports orientation, education, and development of staff
Assists in the interviewing , selection , training and retention of staff
Assist in the process of on-boarding department and hospital personnel
Stresses and reinforces adherence to policies and procedures
Provides supervision of new employee during orientation
Provides and reports accurate information regarding unusual incidents and personnel issues for the manager to follow up on.
Responds to urgent issues such as disaster alerts, patient emergencies, employee injury, patient and family concerns, providing service recovery measures when necessary.
Assist with the screening and admission process of new and potential respiratory patients
Assist with the discharge planning of patients receiving respiratory services
Conducts shift huddles with departmental personnel to ensure compliance with current standards , established practices as well as implementation of new policies
Reporting Relationships
Reports directly to the Manager, Respiratory Care
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
A professional level of knowledge generally acquired through the completion of a Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) from an accredited program.
Two to four years of clinical experience with shift leadership experience
Licenses/certifications required:
Illinois State Licensure for Respiratory Care Practitioner
National Board for Respiratory Care, Registered Respiratory Therapist
Basic Cardiac Life Support certified, American Heart Association
Advanced Cardiac Life Support certified, American Heart Association
Pediatric Advanced Life Support certified, American Heart Association
Strong leadership skills for communication, assertiveness, and conflict resolution.
Demonstrates human relations skills.
Ability to generate ideas and innovations in a patient-oriented Respiratory Care Department.
Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and take appropriate actions to resolve problems using independent judgement and decision-making processes.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, faculty, students and the public.
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to relate to others in a professional, helpful manner.
Ability interpreting and applying regulations, standards and/or policies.
Ability to relate to a diverse population and to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations.
Working Conditions
Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
