FIRST CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST is Hiring a Facilities Maintenance Technician (FT) Near Madison, WI
- As a member of the Church’s leadership team, this position is responsible for performing and directing the maintenance, cleaning, safety and upkeep of the buildings.
- This position acts as the lead worker for the building assistant and caretaker and reports to the Senior Minister and Board of Property Management.
- The typical workweek is 40 hours and includes one monthly evening meeting and very limited emergency response on weekends/evenings.
- Monitor and ensure building maintenance and safety
- Oversee/assure the Church is clean and ready for daily use
- Manage and order supplies as needed
- Negotiate and review contracts with outside vendors
- Monitor and maintain fire alarm system
- Maintain security system/cameras
- Manage HVAC system ensuring proper maintenance and temperature for events
- Maintain property: hang banners, paint, inspect and clean roof drains, remove snow, mow lawns, perform routine activities including plumbing and electrical work
- Provide Board of Property Management with capital improvement recommendations and estimates
- Provide support for activities on the Church grounds
- Develop a work plan to ensure the building environment is suitable for all Church functions
- Build relationships with staff, Church users, board, tenants and others who use the Church facilities
- Work with part time staff to set up and take down rooms for meetings and other uses
- Provide assistance to user groups as problems arise
- Act as the lead worker for part-time and contracted staff
- Oversight of part-time building assistant and caretaker to ensure tasks are completed as required
- Oversee work contracted to vendors
- Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle to procure Church supplies
- Experience or training in construction or repair of structures (i.e. using wood, steel or other metals to make repairs to buildings or experience making repairs to building fixtures and furniture etc.)
- Experience or training in general maintenance and repairs (in areas such as: plumbing, HVAC, electrical work, vehicles, motors, kitchen appliances, motorized equipment, lifts, and generators, etc.)
- Experience operating powered grounds maintenance equipment (such as snow blowers, lawn mowers, lifts, etc.)
- This position requires the physical ability to perform manual labor, to climb, bend, crawl and lift and will sometimes work in cold, hot, or dusty environments
- Ability to use hand and power tools
- Familiarity with building, fire and electrical codes.
- Ability to perform common repairs to the Church’s building including carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, painting, electrical and equipment repair.
- Ability to procure the services of and oversee contractors who work in the building.
- Ability to maintain the Church’s fire alarm and security systems.
- Ability to mow grass and blow snow as needed.
- Computer skills to communicate and maintain HVAC
