University of Wisconsin–Madison is Hiring a Facilities Technician II Near Madison, WI

Job Summary:

The Facilities Technician II at the School of Nursing will join the Administrative Affairs team and operate under the supervision of the Facilities Associate Director. This position serves as the first line of contact for a wide range of on-site operational support of Signe Skott Cooper Hall. The successful applicant will possess skills in providing customer service, maintaining database systems, managing assigned projects, responding to basic maintenance and delivery needs, providing onboarding/offboarding support, and moving furniture for special projects and weekly events.

Responsibilities:Inspects, maintains, and repairs basic equipment and facilities to ensure property meets established standards and to prevent further damage. Assists with construction, and operational maintenance as needed.
  • 5% Utilizes equipment to repair and maintain standard machinery, equipment, and facility property to prevent further damage and ensure optimal operation
  • 10% Performs routine facility inspections and monitors cleanliness
  • 40% Troubleshoots, escalates, and documents issues according to established policies and procedures
  • 20% Receives, inspects, inventories, and distributes deliveries to appropriate entities under general supervision
  • 5% Assists trades, crafts, vendors, and technical staff with construction, design, and operational maintenance as needed
  • 20% Provide operational support for the department
Tasks:
  • Administer mail and package receiving, delivery, and other related services.
  • Available during regular campus hours for appointments and any immediate service needs.
  • Coordinate building key(s) distribution, return, and inventory.
  • Document facilities responsibilities regarding onboarding, offboarding, and moves.
  • Integrate system standards and regulate Facilities updates for scheduling software used by the School of Nursing, Event Management Systems (EMS).
  • Integrate system standards and regulate Facilities updates for service request ticket software used by the School of Nursing, Jira Service Management.
  • Monitor all assigned space needs related to: office inspection, door signage, and mailbox assignment.
  • Perform minor furniture moves where a campus work order is not appropriate.
  • Perform minor repairs where a campus work order is not appropriate.
  • Respond to or escalate tasks daily as facilities requests are received.
  • Serve as backup for the other Facilities staff.
  • Set up and tear down furniture for institutional meetings and events.
  • Where an immediate response is required, report incidents to Physical Plant Customer Service and take basic preventive action to ensure safety.

Qualifications:

-Minimum of 2 years professional work experience, customer service is preferred.
-Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
-Proficient in Microsoft Office, database software, and desktop publishing programs. Able to quickly learn electronic calendaring and scheduling programs.
-Physical ability to walk, bend, stoop, climb, lift to shoulder height, and carry weights of 25 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the capacity to prioritize effectively, explore alternative solutions, and resolve problems. They should also excel in collaborative team environments, actively promoting teamwork. Additionally, adaptability is crucial, as they will thrive in an ever-changing work environment.

Work Schedule:

Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Hours are subject to change to meet the needs of Cooper Hall. The exact work schedule will be determined upon hire.

The expected salary for this position starts at a rate of $23 per hour. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, the employee in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays, and other paid time off, competitive insurances and savings accounts, and employer sponsored retirement benefits.
