Basic Purpose and Function:

This skilled manufacturing position is responsible for providing maritime welding skills for repairs to ships and boats in the U.S. Navy, U.S Coast Guard, Military Sealift Command (MSC), and commercial vessels. They must be able to complete and execute the assigned work tasks following regulatory specifications assigned to the vessel.

Skills & Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. This position will require accessing the ship with the capability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Applicant must be able to:

• Pass a Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) 6G pipe tests for the following material:
• Copper Nickel with (RN-60, 67, 82 filler material)
• Carbon Steel with (70S2 filler material)
• Stainless Steel (309L,316L,347L filler material)
• Aluminum (5356,5556 filler material)
• Pass a 3G Plate tests with Ceramic backing: GMAW Aluminum (5556 filler material)
• Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) HY-100 (101tm filler material)
• Work at all height levels (high and low). 
• Work in confined and enclosed spaces. 
• Work in inclement weather conditions. 
• Work non-standard work hours, as required. 

Education and Experience:

• Three (3) years of welding experience preferred. 
• High school diploma or GED equivalent required. 
• Must be able to read pipe spool schematics, work at heights, and in confined spaces.
• Must have working knowledge of lay out and measuring utilizing both the Imperial (English) and metric system. 
• Must be able to read blueprints, tape measurers, pressure gauges, levels, and squares. 
• Must possess basic math skills. 
• Must possess torch and grinding skills. 
• Must obtain and/or have the ability to maintain a passport for company related travel. 
• Must be able to pass a qualification test prior to being considered for hire. 
• Working knowledge of the Naval Sea Systems (NAVSEA) Standard Items required. 
• Working knowledge of local NAVSEA Standard Items, specifically Southeast Regional Maintenance Center (SERMC) & Forward Deployed Regional Maintenance Center (FDRMC) Naples and FDRMC Bahrain preferred.

Major Responsibility (Functions/Duties):

• Understands and follows Lock Out / Tag Out procedures. 
• Understands and follows Work Authorization (WAF) process. 
• Understands and follows all Hot Work Procedures.
• Assembles and secures pipes, tubes, fittings, and related equipment, according to specifications, by welding, brazing. 
• Inspects, examines, and tests installed systems and pipelines, using pressure gauge, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods. 
• Reads full scale drawings of pipe systems, supports, and related equipment, following blueprints. 
• Measures and marks pipes for cutting.
• Modifies, cleans, and maintains pipe systems, units, fittings, and related machines and equipment, following specifications and using hand and power tools. 
• Familiarity with bending pipes using hand benders and similar devices to manipulate pipe.
• Plans pipe system layout, installation, or repairs according to specifications. 
• Selects pipe sizes and types and related materials, such as supports, hangers. 
• Other duties may be assigned.
