Basic Purpose and Function:

The Finance Controller is responsible for financial consolidation, reporting and analysis, business decision support, forecasting and budgeting, interfacing with other department leaders and all levels of the finance organization. The Finance Controller provides support to both Corporate Finance to ensure corporate financial targets are understood and implemented on programs and to the Program Management Department to ensure program performance data is collected, analyzed, acted upon, and accurately reported.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Government Cost Accounting, Percentage of Completion Accounting and IFRS is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective interface with the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Advanced Excel skills with formulas, functions, and graphs.
  • Understands, manipulates, and provides summaries of various financial reports.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Prioritizes tasks and delegates them when appropriate.
  • Acts with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial-related laws and regulations.
  • Works non-standard work hours, as required.
  • Working knowledge of SAGE and EPICOR are a plus.
  • Working for a foreign-based ownership group is a plus.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business/accounting/finance required. Seven (7) years of related experience in financial analysis, auditing, and/or accounting or other related technical/professional services are required.
  • Minimum of five (10) years’ experience in a construction & project-based business preferred.

Major Responsibility (Functions/Duties):

  • Oversee all general ledger postings and transactions – A/R, A/P, P/O, Payroll, Job Cost and Inventory
  • Provide direct supervision of FMR (Fincantieri Marine Repair) financial analyst and accounts payable professional
  • Support corporate external audit responsibilities resulting in a favorable annual audit outcome
  • Lead FMR consolidated operational and financial reporting to parent organization.
    • (i.e. Sustainability, SG&A, Treasury, Five Year planning and other corporate defined initiatives)
  • Maintain strong internal controls and oversee all daily accounting activities – including timely balance sheet reconciliations
  • Works with Programs and Operations teams to create and maintain timely budgets and forecasts and any reporting or monitoring required to drive accountability for achievement of business objectives.
  • Monitors financial and business Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), providing reports and analysis to business leaders.
  • Supports Program team with subcontractor bids and performs price analysis in order to make cost effective business decisions.
  • Supports Program team with bids/proposals for new work opportunities.
  • Identifies period end accruals and adjustments based on project progress and department expenditures
  • Provides support for the development of Company operating budget and 3 annual forecasts throughout the year.
  • Provide bridge and analysis of change reporting to support business financial messaging.
  • Prepare Board review packages by maintaining summary and detail excel consolidation packages.
  • Identifies, analyzes and reports on significant cost drivers.
  • Provides support to the Finance Department and other functional departments during quarterly re-estimates of work remaining.
  • Assists Finance personnel, as necessary, with claims management, customer invoicing, program journal entries, forecasting and re-estimating activities.
  • Leads the business during financial audits in providing documentation and correspondence with auditors
  • Provides support to the Operations and Programs Departments for the development of data collection and summarization structures needed to satisfy internal and customer reporting requirements.
  • Provides support to the Program Manager for risk and opportunity identification, analysis, response planning and reassessment.
  • Supports the PM team by providing specific economic evaluations (cost-benefit analysis) that are required for project planning.
  • Ensures Program Finance contract deliverables are accurate and developed in compliance with contractual Data Descriptions prior to release to the customer.
