Feeding Missouri is Hiring an Executive Director Near Columbia, MO

Overview

OMNI is honored to be retained by Feeding Missouri in the search for an Executive Director. This role will strategically coordinate, implement, and advance the mission and vision for the statewide association. Areas of responsibility include strategic and operational leadership, advocacy, community and media relations, corporate and foundation relations, board relations, fundraising, financial management, disaster relief and staff development. This role may be based anywhere in Missouri however regular representation in Columbia and Jefferson City will be required on a weekly basis.

Feeding Missouri is a coalition of the six Missouri Food Banks working to provide hunger relief to every county in the state. These food banks are part of the Feeding America network of 200 food banks, the largest hunger-relief organization in the country. Collectively, Feeding Missouri annually distributes over 120 million pounds of food within Missouri through a network of more than 1,500 community-feeding programs.

Responsibilities

Working closely with the Board of Directors and leading a team of three, this role will:

  • Establish and execute programs, policies, and systems to promote awareness of food insecurity in Missouri.
  • Lead and develop a strong team while overseeing the implementation of the strategic plan.
  • Build and enhance relationships with legislators, policymakers, and government officials in the state Capitol, and at the state and federal levels to increase awareness and support for food security in Missouri and Missouri food banks.
  • Closely monitor legislation to understand potential impact for Missouri food banks, make recommendations to Board of Directors, and take appropriate action regarding governmental or legislative issues.
  • Provide support and guidance to individual food banks to help them foster strong relationships with legislators.
  • Work closely with Feeding America and other state associations and organizations on awareness-building opportunities, policies impacting food/food banking, and best practices.
  • Serve as the brand ambassador and spokesperson for the statewide organization.
  • Collaborate with Missouri food banks to identify and build regional and statewide opportunities to secure food, transportation, and distribution services.
  • Identify new sources of food and funds to support food banks, as well as build upon existing relationships.
  • Provide financial oversight, including financial performance, measurement, compliance, and risk management.
  • Partner and collaborate with other State agencies and statewide organizations, including the Department of Social Services, Department of Agriculture, State Emergency Management Agency, FEMA, MO-VOAD, and others to proactively build partnerships to ensure food banks intersect with other organizations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree. Experience with media relations and public speaking is preferred.
  • 5 years’ experience in nonprofit or business management, fundraising, legislative relations, public-policy, or community relations.
  • Proven ability to serve as a detail-oriented, motivated, and enthusiastic leader.
  • Established relationships with legislators, policymakers, or individuals in the food industry is preferred.
  • Ability to maintain regular presence in the state Capitol and to travel across the state, including to the six food banks.
  • Live in Missouri (no farther than two hours from the state Capitol). Location in the central Missouri area is preferred.
  • Possess superior oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated strong financial acumen.
  • Proficiency in technology with the ability to quickly learn appropriate software and database programs.
