Job Title: Library Project Manager (Inventory QC)

Job Summary:

The Library Project Manager (Inventory QC) role involves overseeing quality control processes for library materials, conducting thorough inspections, verifying bibliographic records, and updating item records to ensure accuracy, while also communicating findings effectively with stakeholders, contributing to the efficient operation of the library. Working for the Law Library of Congress offers the opportunity to engage with a vast collection of legal resources and contribute to the preservation and dissemination of legal knowledge on a global scale.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Conducting quality review of completed work in areas of processing collection receipts; collection maintenance; looseleaf filing; shifting, shelving, physical inventory; and binding preparation
  • Verifying the existence of check-in records in ILS or LCAP, confirming bibliographic records, and updating summary serials holdings record to accurately reflect collection items
  • Creating purchase orders, establishing predictive check-in patterns, and affixing necessary labels or markings to each piece
  • Ensuring accurate creation, updating, or relinking of item records, purchase orders, and components in the ILS or LCAP
  • Updating basic metadata spreadsheets for gazette issues checked in and sent for digitization
  • Conducting thorough inspections to identify errors related to processing, looseleaf filing, collection maintenance, pin and linking, and binding preparation
  • Addressing defects promptly and communicating findings effectively with the Contracting Officer Representative (COR)

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Master's degree in Library and Information Science (ILS)
    • A Bachelor's degree may be acceptable with additional years of experience
  • 2 years of experience working in a library
  • Experience reviewing completed work of others for quality control
  • Working knowledge of processing materials in various languages
  • Experience or understanding of cataloging procedures for monographs or serials
  • Experience using and inputting data into a library ILS
  • Knowledge and ability to train staff

Work Setting and Environment:

  • Monday - Friday, normal working hours
  • Work is to be performed onsite in Washington, DC
