Compensations (Based on experience): $92,600- $117,200. 

The Director of Behavioral Health provides overall direction and leadership to Esperanza’s behavioral health programs, including setting goals and objectives for program in alignment with Esperanza’s strategic plan. They will provide behavioral health counseling to children, adolescents, adults, and families to improve overall health in the primary care setting. The Director reports to the Chief Medical Officer, is a member of the Leadership Team, and collaborates closely with the Executive Leadership Team.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides overall direction, supervision, and strategic planning to Esperanza’s behavioral health department.
  • Create systems to ensure integration of behavioral health services into overall health care provision at Esperanza.
  • Assures that EHC behavioral health programs and services at the federally qualified health center (FQHC) and the behavioral health clinic (BHC) are consistent with all professional regulations, including state and federal guidelines. 
  • Collaborates regularly with Chief Medical Officer regarding direction, implementation, and progress of EHC behavioral health services and ensures alignment with key Esperanza strategic goals and tactics.
  • Recruits and hires behavioral health providers and psychiatry providers in collaboration with Human Resources and Chief Medical Officer. 
  • Directly supervises Associate Director, behavioral health managers, and psychiatry providers and support staff at all sites of care to ensure that they are meeting department goals and objectives. 
  • Oversee Medication Assisted Recovery (MAR) program and supervise Manager of MAR Program.
  • Participates in preparation of annual budget in conjunction with the Finance department and CMO. Shares responsibility for its successful implementation. 
  • Participates in regular Quality Improvement (QI) meetings to review ongoing QI activities for behavioral health services, including Medication Assisted Recovery (MAR) and psychiatry. Work with Director of Quality Improvement to set specific, measurable QI goals for programs annually, especially as related to the Uniform Data System (UDS) measures. 
  • Provide comprehensive assessment and diagnosis of behavioral health patients.
  • Provide effective treatment planning and assist clients in successfully achieving goals.
  • Evaluate crisis situations and apply appropriate interventions.
  • May provide group therapy to community organizations or on site.
  • Assist in the detection of “at risk” patients and development of plans to prevent further psychological or physical deterioration.
  • Participates, when appropriate, in the resolution of patient complaints and other problems resulting from the delivery of behavioral health services.
  • Identify problems related to patient services and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Develop contacts with community resources and serve as patient advocate as appropriate.
  • Participate in the development and modification of clinic programs as indicated.
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in education programs, in-service meetings, and continuing education seminars/workshops.
  • Represent Esperanza in professional and community organizations as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Marginal Functions

  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and attends other meeting as assigned.
  • Cooperates with other personnel to achieve department objectives and maintains good employee relations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. Performs both essential and marginal job functions in a safe manner.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in social work or related field.
  • Current Illinois license as Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or comparable licensure (LCPC, LMFT, PsyD).
  • Bilingual- English/Spanish 
  • At least 5 years of clinical experience and 2 years of leadership experience is required.
  • Current Illinois LCSW, LCPC or psychologist.
