Erie Neighborhood House is Hiring an Accounting Clerk (FT) Near Chicago, IL

Erie Neighborhood House, a progressive social service agency serving the Chicago metropolitan area and dedicated to promoting a just and inclusive society, is seeking a full-time Accounting Clerk. Reporting to the Grant Administrator, the Accounting Clerk will perform a variety of financial functions under the direct supervision of the Grant Administrator.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Verifies and enters participant’s information & assessed fee into financial billing system software.
  • Produces monthly invoices and distributes them to program participants.
  • Verifies and enters participant's information in automated credit card software for monthly automatic debit in regards to childcare payments or agency needs.
  • Process online payment from participants, and staff. In-person parent payment collections will be necessary during the first two weeks of the month at assigned locations.
  • Reconciles monthly that all charges have gone through in the automated credit card software.
  • Generates A/R Analysis Aged receivables report, to enter manual invoices & Dr/Cr memos to clear all items that need to be addressed in collaboration with Sr. Grant Administrator and Grant Administrator.
  • Enter journal entries, cash and credit card receipts into MIP.
  • Makes sure that all collections are on target and works with parent to establish a payment plan with the approval of the program director and finance director.
  • Weekly cash collection at various sites for all programs and storage of cash/checks/money orders in the finance safe. As needed for the Little Village site and Teamsters.
  • Scan financial documents into finance drive, such as invoices, receipts, correspondence received.
  • Arranges and maintains the organization and safekeeping of accounting records and documents electronically.
  • Creates and print meal sheets.
  • Prepares and ensures that all deposits are completed on Friday, last day of the month and/or when check amount is 15K or greater. Take deposits to the bank as needed.
  • Makes sure that cash is locked up on a daily basis.
  • Process accounts payable, including check request, and scheduling/distribution of payments at least twice monthly.
  • Receives, processes, and reconciles company credit card information for payment at least monthly.
  • Processes voiding or re-issuing of checks as needed.
  • Responsible for following up with vendors, directors, or employees for all outstanding checks. 
  • Produces annual 1099s.
  • Provides other clerical support as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements:
  • This position requires minimally a High School Diploma plus 2 years bookkeeping experience; Associates degree preferred.
  • Ability to work in the office Monday through Friday during normal business hours.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
  • Have a strong bookkeeping background with superior attention to detail.
  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel; knowledge with automated accounting /billing system a plus.
  • Have knowledge of overall accounting practices.
  • Have a strong positive work attitude and enthusiasm.
