Pay is $18.00 an hour
JOB SUMMARY
The Well Service Trainee is in the learning / training stage to become a WS Floorhand, who is responsible for all activities conducted on the rig work floor, operation of the mud pump, and fluid connections to the blowout preventer and wellhead.

Rig Manager, Operator, Relief Operator, Co-workers
EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS
Contract support - Customers and Third-Party contractors
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Works in a safe, healthy, and environmentally protective manner
  • Assists in operating tongs, picking up/laying down pipe and latching tubing in elevators
  • Assists in managing tools on the work floor
  • Assists in operating the mud pump
  • Assists with nipple up/down BOP tasks
  • Assists with accurately tallying pipe stands
  • Assists in daily preventive maintenance, scheduled and unscheduled repairs and housekeeping
  • Reports and corrects any unsafe work practices and safety hazards
  • Participates in all safety programs, processes, and other requirements of Ensign’s HSE program
  • Attends Operations Training up to two times per year and up to five days per training at designated locations
Performs other duties as directed by management
OTHER DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Business Ethics – Understands fully Ensign’s Ethics policy and its application in all business dealings, including contractual agreements and contract negotiations
  • Business Policies – Understands and agrees to follow all Ensign’s Policy and Directives and procedures as set forth in the Company Policy and Basic Directives Handbook for Employees
  • Certifications – Maintains First Aid and CPR Certifications; remains current on all OSHA, EUSD and other required training
  • Drug-free workplace - Conforms to a drug-free workplace environment, is not under the influence of mind-altering prescription or non-prescription drugs, including alcohol and other substances
  • Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental – Understands fully the Ensign HSE policy and demonstrates self-accountability for own health and safety at work, and Environmental responsibility while at rig site; demonstrates responsibility to avoid adversely affecting the health and safety of others through any act or omission
  • Uses the correct protective clothing and equipment as provided by Ensign, and guards against misuse or damage to such equipment
  • Reports any hazardous situations arising in the workplace that cannot be self corrected, or injury incurred during the course of work, regardless of how minor
Avoids injury resulting from manual handling tasks, by use of risk assessment, correct mechanical handling equipment and correct manual handling techniques
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
  • Understands and can read all safety / training requirements and materials
  • Develops an understanding of all major rig components and the necessary servicing
BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES
  • Works in a manner that ensures personal safety and the safety of fellow crew members
  • Maintains a professional, effective, and polite relationship with other Ensign employees, Third Party representatives, suppliers, and customers
  • Strives continuously to develop a greater knowledge of the total operations, including the duties and responsibilities of each position
  • Works well as a team player and demonstrates willingness to share knowledge to advance knowledge and skills of others
  • Knows, follows, and respects chain of command and follows thru on instructions
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Prior experience in oilfield, heavy industry, or construction is a plus
  • High School diploma or GED is preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
At various times and under certain circumstances, any of the personnel on a Well Service rig may frequently be required to assist and participate in tasks which ordinarily are the primary responsibility of another member of the crew. Aerobic capacity, muscular strength, muscle endurance, joint range of motion and flexibility are requirements of all crew member positions.

  • Tolerates adverse weather conditions
  • Tolerates extremes of temperature that could exceed 100° F or fall below a -40° F
  • Tolerates exposure to the elements and continuous vibration and elevated noise levels
  • Works at heights up to and in the range of 112 feet
  • Vision
  • Maintains depth perception to accurately sense distance
  • Maintains peripheral vision to accurately see objects and detect motion at wide angles
  • Hearing
  • Understands detailed verbal communications
  • Detects subtle changes and discrimination in sound or sounds
  • Communication
  • Recognizes and communicates hazards, alarms, and warnings quickly
  • Communicates ideas, instructions, questions, problems, solutions, and feelings accurately
  • Physical:
  • Stands weight bearing continuously for up to 12 hours at a time.
  • Walks and balances over equipment, slippery or uneven surfaces frequently
  • Reaches below shoulder operating tongs/handling tools frequently
  • Twists, crouches, squats, stoops, kneels, crawls occasionally / intermittently
  • Maintains various body postures, bends frequently
  • Lifts 50 lbs. floor to waist up to fifteen repetitions
  • Carries 50 lbs. front weight up to sixty feet
  • Lifts 50 lb. objects overhead up to five times in a row
  • Pushes and pulls horizontal force of 100 lbs. for fifty feet
  • Grips and holds repeatedly
  • Wears applicable personal protection equipment including, but not limited to, hard hat, safety-toe boots, hearing protection, goggles, safety glasses and safety harnesses
  • Mental
  • Remains mentally alert to the workplace surroundings for as long as present at the job site
QUALIFICATIONS
  • be at least 18 years of age
  • pass a post-offer physical examination, fitness testing, safety aptitude test, drug tests & background check
  • provide proof of and maintain proper legal authorization to work in the United States
  • arrange for reliable transportation to and from work and training locations
  • speak and read English well enough to understand verbal and written safety postings, alerts, and announcements, communicate with co-workers and be able to participate in job safety analysis meetings
