Well Service – Operator (USC)Bakerfield, California$29.00 - $34.00 an hour The Well Service Operator runs the rig and sees to its proper maintenance and is the on-site crew leader, giving instruction, coaching, and directing the activities of the crew. Specific Responsibilities and AccountabilitiesWorks in a safe, healthy and environmentally protective mannerUnderstands and is capable of performing the jobs of WS Trainee, WS Floorhand and WS DerrickhandKeeps a detailed work order book for billing practicesManages and communicates well with crew members and instructs them in safe work habitsCompletes daily tickets & safety programs and formsOversees and is responsible for the work site, well control, and others on locationOversees and is responsible for proper maintenance, upkeep and cleanliness of rigVerifies proper rig up/down procedures, BOP operation and mud pump operationOversees and is responsible for well site cleanup at end of day and end of jobMaintains a positive relationship with the customer and third party contractorsReports and corrects any unsafe work practices and safety hazardsParticipates, trains and takes a leadership role in all safety programs, processes and requirementsAttends Operations Training up to two times per year and up to five days per training at designated locationsPerforms other duties as directed by managementTechnical CompetenciesUnderstands and is capable of reading all safety / training requirements and materialsDevelops an understanding of all major rig components and the necessary maintenanceBehavioral CompetenciesWorks in a manner that insures personal safety and the safety of fellow crewmembersMaintains a professional, effective, and polite relationship with other Ensign employees and suppliersStrives continuously to develop a greater knowledge of the total operations, including the duties and responsibilities of each positionWorks well as a team player and demonstrates willingness to share knowledge to advance knowledge and skills of othersRespects chain of command and follows through on instructionsHandles conflict with patience and professionalism Education and ExperienceUnderstands all well service operations and proceduresUnderstands all down hole situationsPerforms basic to intermediate math calculationsHigh School diploma or GED is preferredPhysical Requirements At various times and under certain circumstances, any of the personnel on a Well Service rig may frequently be required to assist and participate in tasks which ordinarily are the primary responsibility of another member of the crew. Aerobic capacity, muscular strength, muscle endurance, joint range of motion and flexibility are requirements of all crew member positions. Tolerances:Tolerates extremes of temperature that could exceed 100 degrees F or fall below a minus 40 degrees FTolerates adverse weather conditionsTolerates exposure to the elements and continuous vibration and elevated noise levelsWorks at heights up to and in the range of 112 feetVision:Maintains depth perception to accurately sense distanceMaintains peripheral vision to accurately see objects and detect motion at wide anglesHearing:Understands detailed verbal communicationsDetects subtle changes and discrimination in sound or soundsCommunication:Recognizes and communicates hazards, alarms and warnings quicklyCommunicates ideas, instructions, questions, problems, solutions, and feelings accuratelyPhysical:Stands weight bearing continuously for up to 12 hours at a timeWalks and balances over equipment, slippery or uneven surfaces frequentlyReaches below shoulder operating tongs/handling tools frequentlyTwists, crouches, squats, stoops, kneels, crawls occasionally / intermittentlyMaintains various body postures; bends frequently Lifts 50 lbs floor to waist up to 15 repetitionsCarries 50 lbs front weight up to 60 feetLifts 50 lb objects overhead up to 5 times in a rowPushes and pulls horizontal force of 100 lbs. for a distance of 50 feetGrips and holds repeatedlyWears applicable personal protection equipment including, but not limited to, a hard hat, safety toe boots, hearing protection, goggles, safety glasses and safety belts Mental:Remains mentally alert to the workplace surroundings for an entire shiftQualifications The employee must:Be at least 18 years of agePass a post-offer physical examination, fitness testing, safety aptitude test, drug tests & background checkHold a valid driver’s license and pass a motor vehicle record check based on Ensign’s driving criteriaProvide proof of and maintain proper legal authorization to work in the United StatesArrange for reliable transportation to and from work and training locationsSpeak and read English well enough to understand verbal and written safety postings, alerts and announcements, communicate with co-workers and be able to participate in job safety analysis meetingsOther Accountabilities Business Ethics – Understands fully Ensign’s ethics policy and its application in all business dealings including contractual agreements and contract negotiations Business Policies - Understands and agrees to follow all of Ensign’s Policy and Directives and procedures as set forth in the Ensign Company Policy and Basic Directives Handbook for Employees Certifications – Maintains technical and safety certifications required by company or government agencies; remains current on all OSHA, EUSD and other required trainingDrug-free workplace - Conforms to a drug-free workplace, not be under the influence of mind-altering prescription or non-prescription drugs, including alcohol and other drugs of abuse.Occupational Health and Safety – Understands fully the Ensign Health and Safety policy and self-responsibility for own health and safety at work; Demonstrates responsibility to avoid adversely affecting the health and safety of others through any act or omissionUses the correct protective clothing and equipment as provided by Ensign and guards against misuse or damage to such equipmentReports any hazardous situations arising in the workplace that cannot be self-corrected, or injury incurred during the course of work, no matter how minorAvoids injury resulting from manual handling tasks, by use of risk assessment, correct mechanical handling equipment and correct manual handling techniquesEnsign United States Drilling Inc. is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer.
