ENERGY SERVICES WEST
The Substation Project Manager performs overall administrative, technical, financial, and resource management of substation projects from initial bid preparation through completion. The Substation PM is responsible for delivering numerous projects, simultaneously, safely, in accordance with quality standards, on time, and within budget. Ability to provide guidance and oversee multiple subcontractors associated with substation construction is essential.
What You'll Do
- Responsible for the overall financials and contract management of multiple concurrent substation projects
- Works closely with the Project Management Organization (PMO) to ensure consistency and adherence to organizational best practices
- Works directly with the construction management team to ensure successful delivery of the project
- Maintain a professional appearance with the ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines and to provide positive leadership to motivate personnel
- Define problems, collect information, and establish facts to provide an appropriate resolution
- Lead and execute pre-construction efforts in bid preparation, contract and exhibit review, and execution planning
- Build and maintain relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors
- Setup, organize, update, and maintain electronic and printed files of project documents utilizing various systems, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and SharePoint; Primavera P6; JD Edwards; B2W; and others
- Schedule and manage subcontractors, vendors, and material suppliers
- Monitor support construction through communication to ensure the project is built on schedule and within budget
- Ability to interpret and act on terms and conditions within contracts in consultation with company’s legal team to protect company’s interest while maintaining good relationships
- Review cost reports and evaluate methods to reduce cost while maintaining productivity
- Manage budget projection for labor, material, equipment, and subcontractors procured on the project
- Responsible for project cost forecasting, monthly cost to complete development, and accuracy of reporting
- Responsible for the invoicing or payment application process as well as monitoring the quality of weekly labor and equipment hours, material, and subcontractor reporting
- Responsible for productivity, efficient use of materials/equipment, and contractual performance of the project
- Lead daily, weekly and monthly meetings, including monthly project reviews, as required, including the formulation of the agenda and minutes. Generate daily, weekly, or monthly meeting documents as required
- Develop, submit, track, and maintain all project submittals and requests for information
- Monitor and manage project scope and develop, negotiate, submit, track, and maintain client and/or subcontractor change orders when necessary
- Develop and maintain project schedules in MS Project or Primavera
What You'll Bring
Minimum Requirements:
- Four-year construction science, project management, construction management, construction engineering, engineering, or similar related degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience
- Minimum of eight years project or construction management or project controls experience in similar construction with a specific focus on substation construction
- Experience and knowledge of substation construction. While not required, EPC substation construction is highly desired.
- Thorough knowledge of all aspects of project management, project controls, contract management, budgeting, estimating, schedules, negotiations, construction management (technology, equipment, methods), and safety required
- Acute knowledge of project management, project controls, estimating, construction, finance, and contract management with a specific focus in substation construction
- Ability to apply innovative and effective management techniques to maximize team performance
- Thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards and activities
- Ability to apply and successfully execute accounting revenue recognition concepts and operations as needed to examine construction operations
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio, SharePoint)
- Proficient with Primavera P6, JD Edwards, QuickBase, and B2W technology platforms
- Effective communication (oral, written, presentation, listening) and ability to lead meetings
- Effective motivational and supervisory skills
- Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks
- Ability to travel and work on project locations, as required
- Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR)
- Proficient in reading, analyzing, and interpreting technical specifications, financial reports, and legal documents
Preferred Skills and Education/Credentials
Compensation Range
The anticipated compensation for this position is USD $122,500.00/Yr. - USD $160,000.00/Yr. depending on experience and qualifications.
