POSITION TITLE: Director of Residential and Program Mentoring Services, Full-time, structured to work days, but shifts may vary based on coverage needs.

SUPERVISOR: Vice President for Housing and Innovative Economic Programs

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

The Director of Residential and Program Mentoring Services is responsible for the collaborative development, implementation, and periodic evaluation of Mobility Mentoring systems throughout Hastings House. The Director is a member of EMPath's Emergency Assistance Shelter management team and supports the success of the entire shelter program. These systems must ensure both DHCD and EMPath efficiencies and staff accountability. Monthly audits of APRICOT and ETO must be conducted to advance Mobility Mentoring and DHCD outcomes. The Director will advance and share her knowledge of the efficacy of Mobility Mentoring in short-term programs with internal and external constituencies. The Director will work with the Senior Learning Specialist and the Mobility Mentoring Center to provide coaching support for HH staff in Mobility Mentoring, and work with Research and Evaluation to share knowledge and data analysis to capture the work of the team and outcomes' of participants.

This position upholds all contractual Department of Housing and Community Development and EMPath policies and procedures and is responsible for the housing staff to deliver high quality re-housing and programmatic services using a trauma sensitive, coaching, and child centered orientation. Responsibilities also include the day-to-day operations of Hastings House's residential services including program development, program oversight, staff recruitment, hiring, supervision and management.

Security

  • Consistent with the organization's expectations of information security for employees working at the office, telecommuting employees will be expected to ensure the protection of proprietary organization and customer information accessible from their home office. Steps include the use of locked file cabinets and desks, regular password maintenance, and any other measures appropriate for the job and the environment.

Direct Reports

  • Assess, train, and manage direct reporting staff by using the Mobility Mentoring model. Manage all staff reporting to the position so as to effectively recruit, train, evaluate, motivate, delegate and monitor their activities.

Attendance

  • Liaise and attend meetings with other organization functions necessary to perform duties and aid business and organizational development.
  • Strict adherence to EMPath's policies and practices as enumerated in Handbook
  • Review and abide by all EMPath policies and practices and periodically review policies and practices with staff
  • Request and report absences from work in accordance with Handbook.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee and collaborate with Deputy Director on all aspects of the residential program to ensure a safe, respectful, and culturally sensitive environment for families in accordance with EMPath and DHCD policies and procedures.
  • Ensure program compliance with regulatory standards, including responsibility of monitoring ETO and Apricot database systems for quality of and timeliness of data entry.
  • Prepare and monitor budget and attend quarterly budget review meetings with Finance Department.
  • Responsible for weekly direct supervision and coaching of Program Mentors at Hastings House with support from Senior Program Mentor.
  • Audit relevant Mobility Mentoring work happening within the program by reviewing Mentor case notes and comparing those to mentor/participant engagement and progressiveness.
  • Provide direct service to a participant caseload of 3 (three) families in order to remain current with changes, new tools, as well as to provide programmatic coverage as needed.
  • Develop and continuously review with direct reports and supervisor annual work plan for department and staff members.
  • Monitor Program Mentor case load and oversee distribution of incoming participants.
  • Ensure families' timely exit from shelter to permanent housing per DHCD contract requirements including collaboration with Intensive Intake Process and Mobility Mentoring Center and Housing Placement staff and responsible for completion of required documentation for housing search by Hastings House team.
  • Conduct the weekly Hastings House Program Mentor team meetings.
  • In conjunction with supervisor and Deputy Director, develop and implement program policies and procedures for effective and efficient execution of services.
  • Oversee the operation of the daily participant census log, staff scheduling assignments and biweekly payroll completed by program supervisors and other EMPath staff.
  • Oversee staff training needs and develop and implement effective staff orientation, on-boarding and training to ensure delivery of high-quality residential services. Ensure staff participate in at least 40 hours of internal training annually.
  • Coordinate with other departments including, but not limited to, Facilities and Food Services to ensure the smooth operations of residential services.
  • Represent EMPath at internal and external meetings when requested in addition to cultivating new and managing current external partnerships.
  • Provide on-call support and oversight to staff with back-up coverage if necessary on designated nights and weekends on rotation with other residential managers.
  • Partner with MME Exchange to provide consultation to; and facilitate internal and external EMPath trainings and presentations for Exchange Members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

K NOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Experience working with a diverse population of women and children.
  • Knowledge of issues related to domestic violence, mental health and substance abuse.
  • Knowledge of child development and parenting support.
  • Experience with de-escalation, crisis management, mediation and safety planning.
  • Effective problem-solving skills, including demonstrated skills in successful conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office products.
  • Bi-lingual skills preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of hiring practices and labor laws
  • Understanding of budgets and program implementation and assessment

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • BA in related field required, MA preferred.
  • Two plus years of supervisory experience.
  • Two plus years of experience working in a residential facility required

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Requires walking, sitting, some bending, stooping and stretching. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment. Work is performed in a homeless shelter setting. Work may be stressful at times. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to communicate effectively with staff and participants.
