Electric Power Engineers is Hiring a Director of Strategy Near Austin, TX

Our executive team has more than 160 years of experience in the industry working with hundreds of generating facilities and dozens of energy storage installations.

Passionate about helping our client organizations, we work with a variety of client groups including investor-owned utilities (IOUs), municipal-owned utilities (MOUs), cooperative utilities, independent system operators (ISOs), project developers, owners, and independent power producers, as well as other grid stakeholders. Our services include providing generation interconnection, reliability planning, long-term strategy development, economic planning, and load interconnection.

As an early leader in the renewables space, we continue to see significant growth in this space and our goal is to continue to grow this sector three-fold over the next five years.

Position Summary:

The Director of Strategy responsibility is to partner with the Executive Vice President of Operations (EVP-Operations) to lead the next phase of business operations and expansion. The ideal fit will have previous leadership experience and growth-stage entrepreneurial success. The role will work closely with members of the Executive and Senior Leadership Teams to innovate and scale our work in an exciting high-growth phase of our company, exploring the opportunities both in North America and globally. The Director of Strategy will report to the EVP-Operations.

  • Lead the execution of strategic initiatives identified by the Executive and Senior Leadership teams.
  • Create actionable and profitable long-term objectives for the company.
  • Serve as engagement manager across multiple business leaders and initiatives.
  • Support the Executive Vice President of Operations in forecasting and identifying growth opportunities.
  • Prepare and lead strategy sessions during annual SLT Retreat with senior and executive management.
  • Recommend and design metrics to assess business capabilities.
  • Establish and monitor production using metrics and budgets through systems and initiates appropriate actions for improvements.
  • Monitor local and global policies and regulations impacting the energy industry and conduct market research and analysis as needed.
  • Prepare and present competitive market analysis to incorporate into EPE’s business plans.
  • Perform modeling necessary to evaluate strategy and potential projects.
  • Support medium and long-term business strategy and help oversee the implementation of business goals.
  • Work closely with members of senior and executive leadership teams to align overall operations development with business needs and opportunities.
  • Work with the business development team to align thought leadership and marketing efforts.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship in the areas of daily operational management, systems development, and optimization.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Business Management.
  • 10 years of experience in a leadership role, with strong understanding of or experience in the renewable energy industry.
  • Experience in the power sector with an understanding of power systems concepts, policy & regulation, and types of companies operating in the power systems space.
  • Experience in market research and analysis with proven success in the development and execution of long-term strategic growth plans.
  • Expert knowledge and experience on executing multiple strategies concurrently, along with a strong grasp of operations and business development.
  • Ability to map out and organize the process between operations and business development, with proven track record in delivering measured results through planning, managing, and executing broad based initiatives.
  • Leadership qualities that encourage teamwork and trust to influence multiple stakeholders within cross-functional teams in a shared vision to drive results. A collaborative team player with the ability to build and lead senior and executive-level business relationships.
  • Experience working with other teams to stay on the cutting edge while aligning tools, processes, reporting, and best practices to provide EPE with competitive advantages.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint. Salesforce experience a plus.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.

  • Time and cost efficiency for executing strategic initiatives.
  • Alignment with Company goals, vision, and mission.
