As a Teacher Assistant you would be responsible for helping develop and implement ongoing developmentally appropriate activities from the designated curriculum that promote the cognitive, physical, language, social and emotional development of each child enrolled in class in collaboration with the lead and/or co-teachers.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for supporting Lead Teacher in implementing daily curriculum including activities, feeding, toileting/diapering, and positioning.
Prepares materials and classroom for daily activities as directed by the Lead Teacher.
Check daily attendance and be aware of child count and ratios.
Responsible for routine (daily/weekly/monthly) classroom cleaning duties and organization.
Maintain a positive, well organized, loving, and safe environment for all children and families.
Establish a positive relationship with each child and each child's family and communicate daily activities and other pertinent information.
Assist lead and co-teachers in maintaining records on each child's progress and development.
Understand and execute emergency procedures and protocol when needed. Participate in school calendar events – staff meetings, trainings, family events, etc.
Keep abreast of current knowledge and practices in the field of Early Childhood and complete a minimum of 20 hours of early childhood training each year.
Report any family requests, complaints, or suggestions to the Lead Teacher or other administrator as needed.
Maintain all required certifications – CPR/FA, Fingerprinting, hours for certificate or license, etc.
Preserves the integrity and confidentiality of protected health information of Easterseals clients as required by applicable federal and state privacy laws
performs other duties as assigned by the Lead Teacher or CDC Directors.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or equivalent required. Early Childhood Education Credential preferred
Experience with young children a required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Demonstrate success in working as a member of a team including effective and strong communication skills (oral and written).
Ability to relate positively to young children, families, and staff.
Computer literate.
Willingness to learn about developmentally appropriate practices, standards, the ASQ assessment and Conscious Discipline.
Completion of required training to include Bloodborne Pathogens, Fire Extinguisher Training and other Early Childhood trainings as required including completion of DCF 45-hour Coursework.
PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES:
Able to receive oral communication via phone and in person.
Able to stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach.
Able to lift and carry children weighing up to 50 lbs. on a repetitive basis.
Able to see clearly and close.
Obtain and demonstrate a working knowledge of approved behavior management principles and techniques.
WORK ENVIROMENT:
Willingness to work additional hours, including coverage for vacations, special events, annual meetings, increase activity, or another employee’s time off.
