Eastern Aleutian Tribes is Hiring an Accounting Technician Near Anchorage, AK

Position Title: Accounting Technician Department: Finance

Reports To: Purchasing Technician FLSA: Non-Exempt

Position Summary

Working collaboratively with a Finance team, the Accounting Technician is responsible for paying, reconciling and maintaining accounts payable records in a timely and accurate fashion. With seven sites throughout the region and multiple vendors supporting each, this is no small feat! The job demands someone who is organized, pro-active, and disciplined to stay on top of things, and adaptable and objective enough to identify new, pragmatic solutions to day-to-day challenges. In addition, the incumbent must build and maintain positive relationships with vendors while actively and respectfully listening, communicating and executing realistic protocols for the organization and its employees. The incumbent works with others and will provide back-up accordingly; that being said, a willingness to accommodate, learn new things and seek opportunities to help others are critical competencies for success.

Essential Functions

  • Monthly bank reconciliation
  • Reconcile travel for employee and contractors through payments.
  • Charge expenses to accounts and cost centers by analyzing invoice/expense reports, record entries accordingly.
  • Pay vendors by monitoring discount opportunities, verifying Federal ID numbers, scheduling, and preparing checks, resolving purchase order, contract, invoice, or payment discrepancies and documentation, ensuring credit is received for outstanding memos, and issuing stop- payments or purchase order amendments.
  • Maintain accounting ledgers by verifying and posting account transactions.
  • Verify vendor accounts by reconciling monthly statements and related transactions.
  • Maintain historical records by scanning and filing documents.
  • Disburse petty cash by recording entry, verifying documentation.
  • Protect organization's value by keeping information confidential.
  • Back up for the Accounts Payable Technician when needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by either the Purchasing Technician, Controller, or Director of Finance.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • One year of administrative experience performing data entry, file management, word processing, or accounting duties.
  • Experience in tribal health or rural health care is preferred.
  • Experience in rural cross culture setting is preferred.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct preferred.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in a standard office environment.
  • May occasionally be exposed to hazardous conditions and infectious diseases.
  • May be required to work and/or travel outside the traditional work schedule, i.e., evening and/or weekend work.

Physical Requirements

The following demands are representative of those needed to perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Sitting for long period of time
  • Normal range of hearing and eyesight
  • Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to operate office equipment such as computer keyboard, photocopier, telephone, or similar.
  • Lift, pull or push approximately 50 pounds.
