Overview

The Substation Engineering Manager will lead a multi-discipline team of engineers, designers, drafters, and support staff to produce deliverables on diverse and challenging substation projects. He/she will manage project execution of engineering design, material, equipment, and construction specification development for various projects. The successful candidates will also support business development, client interaction, project execution, and proposals. The position will be reporting directly to the Vice President of Electric Engineering Services.

Responsibilities

• Will perform engineering tasks as the substation structural engineering lead and manage multiple projects at the same time.
• Develops and Manages budget, schedule, and quality requirements across multiple disciplines for assigned projects.
• Reviews lower-level engineering work or assignments. Responsible for coordinating multiple discipline activity and serving as the responsible charge for assigned projects.
• Responsible for assisting with identification of key client interests and drivers on projects. Communicates client interests and drivers to project team members and develops approaches to accommodate these concerns in the performance of the work.
• Provides support to business development or pursuit activities.
• The position will entail occasional travel to support field assignments, and meetings with clients and other organizations.
• Actively manages project changes directly with the Client in coordination with the Project Manager.
• Consistently and independently applies knowledge and complies with Black and Veatch quality program relative to assigned tasks.
• Provides guidance and direction to assigned direct reports.
• Assists with the performance management process and mentoring.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET approved college or university.
• Minimum 8 years of experience working in substation design or similar with utility or consulting engineering firm.
• Professional Engineer’s License in electrical engineering.
• Proficient using Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word, and Outlook).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with substation design and construction standards for Southern California Edison.
• Experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.

Wage Data Per State Requirements

Salary range for this position is $140,000 - $190,000. The starting salary will be commensurate with skill, education, experience, and working environment.
