DMI, LLC is seeking a Technical Writer to support a large State of Maryland agency and its systems modernization project. The Technical Writer/Editor will be focused on creating materials for training and support documentation. They will edit those materials, create them to be delivered through multiple deliver channels, and support the administration of the training and education aspects of the project.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Work with 21CFSE staff on the Training and Readiness Needs Analysis to develop datasets that support all Organizational Change Management (OCM) activities.2. Interpret technical information and requirements; identify and prioritize critical content; ensure information aligns with the intended audience and is consistent with policy and program goals; re-write and edit material for clarity, persuasiveness, and adherence to format and style conventions of targeted information outlets.3. Design standards, guidelines, templates, and checklists for all deliverables.4. Collaborate with internal and client stakeholders to design and develop relevant and effective OCM deliverables.5. Review deliverables to ensure that the deliverable quality is as per the project quality parameters and best practices standards.6. Identify and share the risks with the Project Leads/Functional Manager to discuss possible solutions/mitigations/alternatives.7. Provide clear and effective feedback to the team with the intent to develop their instructional design skills.8. Identify opportunities to implement new and innovative OCM strategies into the solution.9. Recommend revisions, format changes, alternative methods of information presentation, or other changes to ensure that the publication contributes to fulfilling 21CFSE mission and provides the critical information needed by the intended audience.10. Manage the editing and approval procedures, as well as the various stages of production to meet stringent deadlines and to ensure that materials are of the highest quality.11. Independently or as a principal on a team, participate in conceptualizing and developing clear, well-defined OCM materials or other deliverables for multiple audiences.12. Participate in all aspects of development, including defining the intended audience, reviewing and advising on content, advising on the most effective method of presenting technical data, and on the style and presentation most appropriate for accomplishing the 21CFSE objective.13. Ensure accuracy in technical terminology, completion of procedural steps, and effective presentation of textual, tabular, and graphic materials, and ensure that the presentation of new findings or concepts is clear and concise to avoid misinterpretation.14. Analyze materials in terms of conformity to the required style, organization, and manner of presentation and reorganize or revise accordingly.
Education and Years of Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Education, IT, or a related field.
A minimum of five (5) years of experience in this area.
*Specialized Experience:1. At least three years of specialized experience performing the following tasks: a. Writing and editing products that articulate, interpret, and explain complex or potentially controversial policies, programs, and research findings. b. Researching, analyzing, and presenting scientific and/or technical information that is novel, unique, abstract, and/or has multiple themes. c. Editing materials for conformance to grammar and style guides, accuracy of scientific and/or technical terminologies, and consistency with the organization's mission d. Advising on the intended audience, formatting, and approaches of presenting scientific and/or technical information and e. Authorizing the clearance of materials for publication.2. Proven experience in technical writing and documentation for audiences with varying levels of technical expertise.
3. Possess a high degree of writing skill, editorial judgment, initiative, and reliability to generate accurate communication of scientific and/or technical developments to experts and other intended audiences.
