Position Summary

Coordinate and monitor all phases of construction projects from start to final acceptance for compliance. Maintain project schedule and budget and provide guidance and information pertaining to technical aspects of assigned projects. Perform related duties as required.

Detailed Duties

  • Review schematic design documents for compliance with sound engineering principles. Ensure designer adheres to the program and that facility needs are met. Review and approve plans and specifications to ensure timely completion of detailed, comprehensive construction documents. Establish project budget.
  • Meet with all project principles, including designers, general contractors, sub-contractors, resident engineers, vendors, and interdepartmental personnel to establish project milestones, scheduling, payment, and other related issues.
  • Attend weekly project meetings. Initiate and maintain daily rapport with Resident Engineers. Review daily reports and conduct site visits as required.
  • Recommend acceptance or determine refusal of financial obligation for itemized payment requisitions, change orders, and extra services, and contractual modifications.
  • Mediate disputes by ensuring compliance with contract documents. Defer unresolved issues to Project Manager.
  • Monitor project schedule and budget for compliance and make modifications as required. Prepare, compile and submit reports and documentation relative to project progress.
  • Supervise various Resident Engineers per project, and provide guidance and advise to project principles.
  • Coordinate use and occupancy and furnishings and equipment. Ensure completion of punchlist items. Participate in evaluations which determine final acceptance of projects. Work with Office of Finance to coordinate closing of project.
  • Maintain accurate project records, including as builds, warranties, guarantees, list of suppliers, and all other project documentation.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the public construction process.
  • Knowledge of current software such as Microsoft Word for Windows, Microsoft Excel for Windows, etc.
Qualifications
First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.
Applicants must have (A) at least five (5) years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in trades, construction, construction management, inspection and/or alteration of building construction projects; or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Incumbents are required to have a current and valid Motor Vehicle Driver’s License at a Class level specific to assignment.
Substitutions:
  • An Associate’s degree or Technical degree in a related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.
A Bachelor’s degree in a related field may be substituted for four (4) years of the required experience
