Fearless is looking for a Content Designer II to add to our diverse team of 250 employees (and counting!).
What you'll be doing

The Content Designer II is a highly collaborative team member who is responsible for creating, implementing, and maintaining content solutions for complex products and services. They are experts at taking industry jargon and transforming it into simple, clear, and easy to understand content. They take an evidence-based approach to deliver and maintain content that is accurate, relevant, and consistent with organizational tone and voice. They conduct various research activities focusing on user needs, organization goals and information architecture to make informed content decisions.

Responsibilities and Contributions
Organizational and Leadership Role
  • Independently executes and implements solutions with minimal direction from senior Designers or team leaders.
  • Coaches and mentors other Designers to develop their professional skills and improve the quality of their work.
  • Strengthens Fearless content design community and fosters positive collaboration across the company.
Functional Role
Collaboration & Communication
  • Builds relationships across organizations in order to identify and understand the needs of users and to influence decision-making.
  • Collaborates with the team and customer to visualize outcomes, prioritize work, and craft requirements.
  • Collaborates with Designers, Engineers, Scrum Masters, and Product Managers to guide design best practices within the team to ensure that the customer goals, user needs, and business needs are met.
Implementation
  • Engages with Engineers and Technical Leads to implement content that meets design specifications and delivers business value.
  • Incorporates evidence, data, and research into the content design process in order to make informed design decisions.
  • Derives user-focused outcomes through quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Develops, contributes, and implements style guides and design patterns to maintain consistency and elevate the overall quality of work.
  • Determines the order in which content should be displayed through activities such as mapping user journeys, scripting sub-conversations, card sorting and competitive research, analysis, and iteration.
  • Identifies and compares best processes and delivery methods to use, including measuring and evaluating outcomes.
  • Evaluates current strategies to ensure business requirements are being met and exceeded where possible.
  • Continuously reviews and maintains content to ensure it is accurate, relevant, and optimized for users and search engines.
  • Crafts content that turns industry jargon into plain language that is clear and easy for users to understand.
  • Creates, edits, and improves the content of products and services to make them easier to use.
  • Leads the improvement of digital products and services through content design practices such as content reviews, content audits, and usability tests.
  • Plans and conducts research activities such as user and stakeholder interviews, desk research, bench-marking of other products and services, and mapping user objectives in order to understand the needs, goals, and pain points of users and stakeholders.
Essential Skills, Experience, or Competencies
Must-Have Skills
  • A minimum of 4 years of directly related experience
  • Ability to obtain the required security clearance required for this project: Public Trust
  • Experience writing content for digital platforms or experiences, such as UX copy, blogs, social media, and web pages.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a group, actively network with others, and provide varying feedback to the team at the appropriate time to ensure that discussions stick.
  • Experience implementing and coaching others on content design best practices and standards.
  • Ability to operate and manage work, strategically reason, build relationships, and influence others.
  • Experience creating content that aligns with the federal plain language guidelines.
  • Ability to authoritatively communicate and facilitate discussion around usability, accessibility, and content design.
  • Ability to identify and communicate constraints and can work within them.
  • Experience establishing, iterating, and documenting design patterns to solve problems.
  • Experience creating content design standards and processes.
  • Experience incorporating human-centered design methods into content creation.
  • Experience conducting Flesch-Kincaid tests.
  • Demonstrated understanding of how content should be displayed on a product level (systems thinking), flow level (journey mapping), and page level (information architecture).
Icing-on-the-Cake Skills
  • Experience working in agile, including an awareness of agile tools and how to use them.
  • Experience managing stakeholder relationships.
  • Experience working with government customers.

Our approach to compensation is intended to ensure our total package serves all of your needs and includes base pay, medical and other benefits, performance rewards, 401k matching, plus a few perks (tech and wellness reimbursement programs)!
Our salary ranges are determined based on role, level and location and provide team members salary growth within a salary grade over time. Team members automatically progress within a salary range through annual increases (given to reward service at Fearless) or merit increases (given to reward and individual's demonstrated performance and growth within the position). Fearless team members are also eligible for discretionary bonuses based on company performance.
The salary ranges for this position based on location are listed below. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified as a part of our annual salary range review.
  • AL, FL, GA, TN Residents: $61,117 (min) - $76,396 (mid) - $91,675 (max)
  • NC Residents: $63,007 (min) - $78,759 (mid) - $94,511 (max)
  • DE, MD, PA, TX, VA Residents: $66,157 (min) - $82,697 (mid) - $99,236 (max)
  • DC Residents: $74,348 (min) - $92,935 (mid) - $111,523 (max)
  • CA & NY Residents: $76,869 (min) - $96,086 (mid) - $115,303 (max)
Within the range, starting pay for team members is based on the evaluation of the alignment with the position description requirements including job-related skills and experience or training. This range reflects your earning potential over the course of your career at Fearless in this position.
