General Job Information
Job Summary
This position is in the DC Department of Aging and Community Living (DACL) External Affairs and Communications (EAC) unit.
DACL serves District residents 60 and older, adults living with disabilities, and those who care for them. In partnership with more than 20 community-based organizations across the city, we offer more than 40 free or low-cost programs to help all District residents live boldly at any age, stage, or ability.
The mission of DACL is to advocate, plan, implement, and monitor programs in health, education, and social services which promote longevity, independence, dignity, and choice for the city’s older adults (ages 60 years or older), people with disabilities (ages 18-50 years), and caregivers.
The primary purpose of this position is to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate outreach efforts to support the agency’s mission, vision, and values.
Duties and Responsibilities
Work closely across DACL departments and grantee organizations to support outreach goals by planning, organizing, and delivering outreach projects in coordination with EAC personnel, government partners, and / or community-based organizations.
Plans, implements, and supports the outreach programs and events including providing advice, project direction, and assistance in promoting the agency to stakeholders.
Conducts community outreach studies; analyzes and makes recommendations to improve the program's effectiveness. Provides analyses and evaluation of actual or potential effectiveness and current and / or projected program activities.
Coordinates agency outreach and education efforts to ensure District residents, of all ages, are knowledgeable of information, resources, and programs to promote active and healthy aging in their community.
Leads agency’s volunteer efforts to attract, engage, and retain community volunteers.
Qualifications and Education
Specialized Experience : Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position and has equipped the individual with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position such as participating and coordinating community events.
To be creditable, the incumbent must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.

The work requires extensive work in the community; driving to off-site locations is required.

Collective Bargaining Unit : This position is not in a collective bargaining unit.
Position Destination : This position has been deemed Security Sensitive under the guideline of the DC Personnel Manual. Incumbents of this position are subject to enhanced suitability screening pursuant to Chapter 4 of DC personnel regulations.
Accordingly, incumbents must successfully pass a criminal background and consumer credit check as a condition of employment and will be subject to periodic criminal background checks for the duration of their tenure.
