PRODUCTION ENGINEER 4

The Production Engineer is responsible for the continuous improvement of manufacturing processes, fabrication and assembly, cost reduction initiatives, processing of engineering changes, and introduction of new products. Also provides guidance and mentoring to junior engineers, technicians and operations support staff. Capable of development of project plans, execution of capital projects and significant activities requiring a multi-functional team. The production engineer is a team player, results oriented, dedication to excellence and strong work ethics.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include:

• Establish continuous improvement goals and executes action plans
• Utilize proven lean manufacturing abilities to identify opportunities for cost reduction, increased quality, work flow improvements, estimating, project analysis, technology development and core manufacturing skill set.
• May provide guidance and mentoring to junior engineers, technicians and support staff
• Support DOE, 8D, FMEA, 6 Sigma and DFP analysis and implementation of Kaizen activities
• Work with Design Engineers to revise, and sustain HVAC product, tooling and machine designs utilizing knowledge of mechanical engineering principles; provide manufacturing technical resource to Design Project teams
• Develop and manage project schedules related to existing product launches or design modifications
• Document product designs by preparing bills of materials, cost analyses, drawings, and engineering change requests
• Assist in redesigning internal components to improve overall long term system quality, improve efficiency and reduce cost
• Develop engineering solutions to product related issues through problem solving and root cause analysis techniques
• Participate on cross functional teams to launch product modifications, resolve issues, and support product improvements
• Coordinate project work internally with the department and externally with other departments to ensure on-time completion of projects within budget
• Develop suppliers for manufacturing equipment, develop key suppliers, create an environment of continuous improvement in equipment UPTIME, EFFICIENCY & QUALITY
• Create preventive maintenance that effectively maintains the equipment in optimal form without the need for short cutting the quality or machine capability

Participate in additional projects to support ongoing business needs

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills:

• Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of manufacturing engineering theory, processes, and practice
• Skilled in at least two or more of the following areas - Molding, Finishing, Tooling, Fabrication / Stamping of aluminum and steel, Assembly processes and or Product Engineering support in a manufacturing environment
• Knowledge of specifications and standards used in the HVAC industry – strongly preferred
• Lean manufacturing concepts - Kaizan, value stream mapping, Kanban, demand flow technology; line balancing & time studies
• Expert on core manufacturing documentation – PFMEAs, PCPs, PFDs, DFA/DFM, and all aspects of manufacturing in a high volume environment and engineering change processes
• Software skills including MS Office Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, AutoCAD, Mapics
• Effective analytical and problem-solving skills and compliance oriented and attention to detail
• Effective project management skills
• Effective verbal and written communication skills to deliver the message to any level of the organization – with clarity and preciseness required at each level

Effective interpersonal & collaboration skills and ability to work with teams

Experience:

• 8 years in a production/manufacturing engineer role
• 6 years of product design in assembly HVAC environment preferred, or automotive, appliance industry

Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree - Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, or Systems Engineering
• Six Sigma certification preferred
