Model Maker 1 - 2nd Shift

The Opportunity

Daikin Comfort Technologies Manufacturing, L.P. is seeking a skilled individual for our Model Maker 1 position at our DTTP - Waller, TX location. The Model Maker responsibilities include but are not limited to fabricating prototypes parts from sketches and prints, assembling engineering prototype units for testing in engineering labs. Working with design engineers in the development of new designs. About DTTP

Daikin Texas Technology Park- has a footprint of 4.23 million square feet under a single roof, and is the third largest factory in the United States. Opened in 2017 as the manufacturing, logistics, and engineering center for Daikin's American subsidiary Goodman, the plant makes heating and air conditioning products sold under the Goodman, Amana, and Daikin brands.

Responsibilities

May include:

  • Support Engineering pre-production builds of new product designs, making prototype parts and assemblies as required through the design, laying out and fabrication of parts using machine shop equipment.
  • Collaborate with and support engineering regarding the design of modified products
  • Fabricate parts from prints, sketches, or various devices and recommendations.
  • Build prototype and developmental units for testing and for fit and function of design.
  • Ensure work meets high quality expectations through inspection of work with a variety of measuring equipment such as height gages, micrometers, dial indicators and CNC coordinate machine.
  • Help with the support of the labs with test preparation.
  • Work will be performed within both group and independent settings as needed
  • Understand and follow work instructions, operating procedures and company policies.
  • Understand and follow all safe work practices and policies including wearing appropriate PPE as required
  • Perform safety inspections and PMs of model / machine shop equipment and tools. Report any concerns or malfunctions to the manager immediately.
  • Maintain an organized work station and practice good housekeeping
  • May train/mentor new team members as needed.
  • Perform other job duties as needed and required.

Qualifications

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Effective verbal and written English communication skills including listening skills.
  • Working knowledge of hand and power tools:
    •  - Hand brake - Press brake - Gas weld - Wire weld - Arc weld - Tig weld - Braze Lathe
    •  - Power shear - Vacuum form molding - Mill - 3 axis programmable mill - Various saws
    •  - Metal Formers - Plastic Formers - 3D Printer - CNC Water Jet
    •  - Various hand formers and tools - CNC Machining center
  • Must be able to read and interpret prints and sketches.
  • Good math skills for making accurate measurements.
  • Proficient with calipers, micrometers, surface plate inspection practices.
  • Must be able to do sheet metal layout.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
  • Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerances
  • Excellent follow-up and attention to detail skills are required.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills
  • Computer skills - Microsoft Office –Outlook, Excel and Design Cad
  • Ability to work independently as well as in teams/groups
  • Ability to establish positive working relationships with internal and external customers and employees.
  • Ability to use good judgement and strong work ethics and integrity on the job.
  • Ability to practice safe work habits and follow safety protocols and guidelines
  • Ability to report to work as scheduled and work entire shift

Experience:

  • 1 plus years of proven experience

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Machinist Classes or Sheet metal classes/ Vocational Training / Certifications strongly preferred
  • Welding Certification preferred
