SUMMARY: Responsible for supervising skilled and semi-skilled mechanics, utility clerks, administrative clerks, and/or third-party contractors employed to maintain and/or repair equipment at a port facility, container yard or for facilities maintenance.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervise the repair and maintenance of one or more of the following: yard tractors, service trucks, forklifts, top loaders, tank trailers, chassis, flatbeds, reefers, dry trailers, tires, gen-sets, power packs, dry containers, or facilities maintenance. Administer preventive maintenance programs and develop work schedules in coordination with equipment need at the terminal or for facilities maintenance. Normally supervises from one to twenty skilled and semi-skilled employees.
EDUCATION: Associate degree in business/related field or a combination of post high school and equal experience may be substituted for education.
EXPERIENCE: 4 or more years’ experience in repair and maintenance of transportation equipment or facilities maintenance. 2 - 3 years supervisory experience in related area. Strong technical background in repair and maintenance.
TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY: Proficient with Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Outlook, and Word.
COMPETENCIES: Ability to apply skill sets and demonstrate proven experience developing, improving, and streamlining processes to meet established goals and objectives. Ability to effectively manage projects that may vary in nature and scope.
OTHER: Valid Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) credential is required. Also, subject to a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check to obtain your driving history.
JOB SCOPE: Position impacts multiple business units/segments.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works both inside an office environment and outside in conditions of both high and low temperatures. May be exposed to odors, dust, dirt, mechanical hazards, high noise levels and potentially dangerous equipment. Must be able to crouch and stoop to get into areas with restricted headroom and be able to climb ladders. May require extended use of computer keyboard and viewing of computer monitor and ability to sit for long periods of time.
