Covenant House NY is Hiring a Facility Maintenance Technician Near New York, NY
Under the direction of the Director of Facilities and Leasing, the Bronx Facility Maintenance Technician provides leadership and guidance to the custodial staff servicing Covenant House New York (CHNY) Bronx locations and ensures the grounds, facilities, and equipment of CHNY Bronx sites are in good and working order as well as maintained in a clean, safe and comfortable manner for youth and staff. This position may require the individual to assist in, or solely perform, general maintenance and repairs. Additionally, this position requires providing on-call support to the Bronx team during off-hours. This position requires in-person presence at CHNY sites in the Bronx.
- Ensure CHNY’s Bronx facilities are well-maintained, attractive, clean, and in good working order for programmatic purposes.
- Supervise facilities personnel in the Bronx to ensure adherence to CHNY’s policies and standards of all facilities-related staff members.
- Work in partnership with facility and programmatic personnel to identify, prioritize, and address any needed facility-related support.
- Maintain comprehensive inventory records and process, timely and accurate, supply orders and associated payment actions.
- Schedule, track, attend and prepare for all annual governmental or funder visits
- Assist as needed with any new building openings
- Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the Director of Facilities and Leasing as necessary or required concerning the operation of the Facilities Department.
- Assist in establishing an effective preventive maintenance program of cleaning, painting, maintaining equipment, etc., as necessary/approved.
- Report, timely, equipment failure and infrastructure issues outside of skill level to the Facilities Administrative Coordinator for Vendor/Landlord assistance.
- Anticipate issues, prioritize and plan with the team for efficient and realistic action plans on a wide variety of projects and ensure completion of projects/plans within set deadlines.
- Prioritize, review and follow up on all daily work order requests until completion.
- Manage facilities-related crises and collaborate with all other CHNY departments, as needed, to resolve facilities problems and issues.
- Delegate work to the Bronx custodial staff with clear instructions and provide performance feedback to team members in a timely fashion.
- Keep an accurate and up-to-date key log for all Bronx Facilities
- Represent Covenant House as the on-site contact person for all vendor repairs and make sure vendors follow Covenant House building protocols.
- Attend all mandatory training in compliance with CHNY’s policy and procedure.
- On-call 24 hours a day for all emergencies.
- Trained and proficient in Relias Learning Management System.
- Performs other duties as assigned and/or needed by the Facilities Director.
- High School diploma or equivalency required. BA from an accredited college or university is preferred.

- Working knowledge and understanding of HVAC controls, heating systems, electrical systems, and construction methods/admin required.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills and the ability to operate independently.

- Ability to adapt well to changes in direction and priority in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
- Ability to assess and recognize quality and quickly recognize problems.
- Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

- Must be dedicated to the mission of Covenant House.
- Ability to remain calm while handling high-risk crises.
- Independently recognizes and performs duties that need to be done without being directly assigned.

- Maintains strict confidentiality when working with sensitive information.
- Must be able to see, hear, touch, feel, lift (up to 20 - 50 lbs.) and stand for periods.
- Moderate physical effort required – climbing, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, and routine discomfort from moderate levels of heat, cold, noise, and air pollution.
