Position Summary
The Education and Employment Specialist provides and ensures a high quality of service deliverythrough direct supervision and program development. In coordination with the Director of Programs, Employment and Education Specialist will work with program staff to ensure the provision of education and employment services to youth while ensuring implementation of agency philosophy, policy, and procedures.
Job Functions
Program Development and Maintenance
• Participate in the review, development, and implementation of program policies and procedures; • Ensure compliance with all licensing requirements;
• Represent the program within the local human services community by attending meetings, making presentations, outreach, and education of the public as requested.
• Act as the agency liaison for the Education and Employment with other service providers. • Maintain positive working relationships with all CHIL program components • In partnership with the Director of Programs participate in the development of the Educationand Employment budget.
• Manage requisition of program supplies.
• Perform other duties as assigned
Grant Administration
• Ensure the collection and management of all data necessary for timely reporting to funders. • Provide all necessary grant reporting specifically for the Education and Employment in a qualityfashion.
• In coordination with the Director of Programs, oversee the delivery of grant-funded programstoyouth, ensuring desired outcomes are met and tracked.
Training and Development
• Previous training or willingness to receive training and maintain certification as requiredinareas including but not limited to:
• Trauma Informed Care, Motivational Interviewing, Human Trafficking, Suicide Prevention, Cultural Competency, Harm Reduction, Mental Health and Substance Use Issues. • As a member of the team, be a part of new hire orientation.
• Identify and help provide additional training for Agency staff.
Data Management & Outcome Evaluation
• Maintain Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) database management and assist in implementing dataprotocols.
• Ensure the quality and timeliness of data entry by all staff as it relates to Education and Employment.
• Maintain a dialogue with the Data Manager to continually improve the data design, quality, andprocesses in ETO.
• Analyze data to track outcomes in order to help inform program design and decisions. Essential Functions
• Demonstrates a clear understanding of the Covenant House Mission.
• Maintain a high level of ethical standards.
• Ensure the safety of youth seen by CHIL at all times and ensure security of the Youth Development Center (YDC.)
• Provide supervision of the building, including coverage of various areas of the building whennecessary.
• Maintain a positive and professional working relationship with the general public, includingotheragencies.
• Demonstrate an enthusiastic commitment to the job, the Agency and the youth we serve. • Accept and integrate supervision; provide supervision within the Agency’s structure and guidelines.
• Seek out new information and training in the field.
• Coordinate with community partners and volunteers to deliver additional programming to CHIL residents and drop in youth.
• Keep supervisor fully informed at all times
• Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Psychology, Sociology or related field. Experience
Experience working with adolescent or disadvantaged populations, preferably in a residential setting. Experience in a supervisory capacity providing direct supervision and evaluation of staff is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
• Understand and comply with all Agency policies and procedures; including Child Protection Policies.
• Understand and comply with all principles of Trauma-Informed Care and Harm Reduction. Willingness to acquire basic concepts in care coordination for adolescents and young adults and incorporate into service-provision.
• Is approachable, relatable, builds rapport well, and practices active listening with individuals of varied cultural backgrounds, embracing differences in behavior and lifestyle choices. • Knowledge of community social service resources to assist youth with needs related to housing, employment, education, and social-emotional well-being.
• Knowledge of crisis intervention and ability to address conflict between youth exhibiting challenging behaviors; able to respond quickly and safely while continuing to be a settling influence in crisis situations and emergencies.
• Can maintain confidentiality while understanding and complying with requirements of mandated reporting, duty to warn, HIPAA, and other limits to confidentiality. • Willingness to utilize training opportunities in support of personal and professional growth, competence development, and to increase overall capacity to serve youth every day. • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient with standard computer operating systems. Ability to navigate Microsoft Office Suite, online databases, and other programs and websites as required.
• Willingness and ability to work outside of normal business hours as well as Holidays and weekends as needed.
• Able to accommodate a wide range of physical activity, including but not limited to walking long distances, moving up and down the stairs, lifting bags or boxes up to 50 pounds, driving a minivan, and physically assist youth if needed.
• Willingness and ability to attain a CPR/First Aid Certification.
• Possess a current and valid Driver's License.
• Have a good driving record.
• Pass federal, state, and local background check investigations.
• Organizational abilities and level of responsibility conducive to ensuring team and youth safety, keeping supplies inventoried and stocked, and tracking and reporting on grant-funded activities.
• Able to articulate successes and challenges experienced by youth to inform program development and effectively communicate with CHIL staff, community partners, funding sources, and others.
• Willingness to see past differences in behavior and functioning and ability to passionately advocate for the right of all youth to be valued, supported, and housed.
• Dedication to maintaining a continued awareness of innovative and newly developing trends in service provision to youth experiencing homelessness.
• Leadership skills and ability to tactfully and effectively coach team members
