POSITION TITLE: Project Specialist, Nursing Education (Python Skills Required)

STATUS: Full time / Exempt

LOCATION:Chicago, Illinois (Hybrid: 2 days/week on-site, 3 days/week remote)

The National Council States Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is an independent, not-for-profit organization through which nursing regulatory bodies act and counsel together on matters of common interest and concern affecting public health, safety and welfare, including the development of nursing licensure examinations. Our mission empowers and supports nursing regulators in their mandate to protect the public. 

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a talented professional to join our Nursing Education team. The ideal candidate will bring value to the team by receiving nursing regulatory body data from Qualtrics, entering it into Python, and creating reports in support of NCSBN’s Annual Report Program. Additionally, the candidate will work with the team on other issues, such as verifying data with universities, communicating with the nursing regulatory bodies (NRBs), and participating in departmental and division meetings and activities.

Reporting to the Director, Nursing Education, the Project Specialist will work closely with the Nursing Education team to meet the timelines and goals of the NRBs’ reporting needs. 

This role is an exciting opportunity for an individual with excellent communication, project coordination, and python skills, who would like to expand their professional growth with an organization committed to advancing nursing regulation and policy worldwide!

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and maintain the code in Python for NRBs that participate in the Annual Report Program. Update python code when the NRBs additional questions change within the annual report. Plan the process of using Python to develop the reports for new boards of nursing that join the program.
  • Using Python, develop annual reports for the participating NRBs. Customize the reports for each NRB using tables, pie charts, matrices and other visualizations.
  • Work with Nursing Education team to verify the data submitted by nursing programs and update the data in Qualtrics as needed. This will include emails to, and calls with, programs about their data and close communication with the Nursing Education team.
  • Actively participate in department and division meetings and contribute to the meetings with Annual Report Program participants. Work with the team to strategize improving and expanding the program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • At least three years of using Python successfully.
  • Python developer with fundamental programming skills such as assigning variables and constructing basic logic structures.
  • General data wrangling/manipulation knowledge (particularly with Pandas data frames and pivot).
  • Experience automating standard data cleaning and reporting processes using docx for text/tables and matplotlib for visualizations.
  • Experience with data cleaning procedures (such as adjusting program names and ensuring data validity).
  • Ability to use docx package to export question-specific data in table or text format within a Word document.
  • Ability to develop visualizations such as bar charts and pie charts using matplotlib package to better illustrate the data.
  • Broadly familiar with analyzing survey data.
  • Ability to automate reporting for a core set of items/questions, common across all NRBs, in addition to NRB-specific question sets as they occur.
  • Ability to implement a Qualtrics API (otherwise raw data could be manually extracted).
  • Excellent communication skills with NCSBN staff, NRB members and faculty who complete the surveys.
