Position Title: Custodian – Part-Time
Position Characteristics: Non-seasonal, 20 hours per week, no benefits.
Weekdays, evenings, late nights, Saturdays, Sundays, holidays.
Department: Visual Maintenance
Reporting Relationships:
Position Reports To: Custodial Supervisor, Full-Time Custodian
Positions Directly Supervised: None
Position Purpose:
Responsible for cleaning and maintaining the Service Area building, equipment, fixtures, and furnishings. Perform routine maintenance including vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping floors; dusting, washing walls, doors, and windows, and emptying trash. Perform minor preventative maintenance and minor repairs. Assist service personnel as needed. Report major repair and maintenance needs.
Nature and Scope:
This position requires knowledge of basic cleaning techniques and the ability to follow instructions quickly and correctly. Attention to detail is also vital to the successful execution of this position and to ensure that building appearance and sanitation are appropriately maintained. Assist with snow removal.

Stooping: Bending downward and forward at the waist. Requires full use of lower extremities and back muscles.
Kneeling: Resting on knee or knees.
Crouching: Bending downward and forward at the leg and spine.

Standing: For extended time periods.
Walking: Especially for short distances.

Physical Strength: Medium work, exerts up to 50 lbs. occasionally and/or up to 20 lbs. frequently, and 10 lbs. constantly.

General Education-Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, involved instructions and to deal with problems involving several concrete variables.
General Education-Mathematics Ability: Ability to perform very basic math skills including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing two digit numbers; to perform the four basic arithmetic operations with coins as part of a dollar; to perform operations with units such as inch, foot, and yard; ounce and pound (or their metric counterparts).
General Education-Language Ability: Ability to recognize the meaning of 2,500 (2 and 3 syllable) words; to read (by sight or Braille) at a very slow rate; to compare similarities and difference between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and communicate in simple sentences.
