CORE Community Organized Relief Effort is Hiring a Development Assistant Near Los Angeles, CA

CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to save lives and strengthen communities impacted by or vulnerable to crisis. We respond immediately to fill gaps, mobilize resources, and establish trust and collaboration from within communities. We empower and invest in community-based organizations and local leaders to help break perennial cycles of poverty and vulnerability. Tackling the COVID-19 pandemic as a humanitarian crisis, CORE mobilized free testing and vaccines for disadvantaged communities and throughout the U.S., India, Brazil and Haiti as well as other overseas markets. CORE forged strategic partnerships with local health agencies and community-based organizations to reach high-risk populations in marginalized communities and has administered over 3 million COVID-19 vaccines and more than 6 million tests worldwide. 

The Development Assistant is a member of the Partnerships & Development team and is responsible for a multitude of administrative tasks in support of the team’s cultivation of individual, corporate, foundation, government, and institutional donors. This role fulfills the business needs of a fast-paced development team responsible for raising $65M in CY23 to fuel CORE’s frontline response and ongoing programming. The ability to adapt, prioritize, take direction, and communicate effectively both in written and verbal form is critical in this role. An understanding of how CORE works interdepartmentally to respond quickly to crises and emergency responses is key to success. Growth in this role is driven by this person’s entrepreneurialism, attention to detail and follow-through plus a deep commitment to CORE’s equity-based values.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct background research on major donors (i.e. online and Salesforce, Foundation Center online, WealthEngine)
  • Enter donor biodata information into Salesforce daily
  • Work closely with the Development Manager to
  • Produce Salesforce reports for Leadership
  • Make Salesforce dashboard adjustments
  • Pull segmented lists of donors from Salesforce
  • Work with Development Manager and Accounting on printing and sending donation thank you letters; Help manage vendor relationship with printing vendor once set up in ‘23
  • Communicate with external and internal contacts to schedule donor meetings and set up donor-facing Powerpoint presentations for various members of the P&D and Leadership team leads
  • Assist the VP of Partnerships and Development and the VP of Communications on two direct mail campaigns in 2023
  • Secure a Planned Giving external vendor partner and work with Communications to stand-up associated platform content
  • Manage content on Intranet for the P&D team
  • Deployable should support be needed during an on-the-ground emergency response
  • Adhere to the highest ethical standards; demonstrate empathetic disposition, and perseverance; reflect optimistic and positive attitude, and convey sensitivity to needs of the donors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • An exceptional can-do attitude when assigned with tasks; ability to learn quickly on-the-job and follow-through with minimal supervision
  • Commitment to professional growth and learning new skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication aptitude
  • Capable of handling numerous tasks at once and still meeting deadlines
  • Able to thrive in a remote team setting and the self-motivation to work independently
  • At least 2-3 years of professional work experience
  • Ability to conduct online research on donors of all types with ease using key words on a variety of websites
  • Familiarity with Salesforce is a plus
  • A proven fundraising track record, as well as possible history in finance, sales, and marketing is a plus
  • Internal candidates preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • In an emergency response, work weekends and evenings to support the team
  • Deploy to domestic and overseas sites during an emergency response if needed (i.e. up-to-date passport and vaccinations needed)
