Senior Office Engineer - Transportation

The Senior Office Engineer will provide technical assistance for multiphase/multipackage mega civil infrastructure projects working with consultants, contractors, public agencies, and other stakeholders for the preparation of drawings, specifications, budgets, and construction documents. The Office Engineer will substantiate reports and documentation regarding material, installations, feasibility, and construction technology specifications, and verify that work has been delivered with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards. Successful candidates will the ability to be flexible and adaptable to handle a variety of assigned tasks and workloads is required. The candidate shall be able to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Responsibilities

Specific Duties

• Collect, compile, and analyze data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, environmental data, historical use, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.
• Conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, resources, building, infrastructure, and transportation
• Review and coordinate plans, specifications, and cost estimates; update design plans that require coordination with owners, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients
• Work as an individual or as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, architects, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects
• Review, edit, and comment on data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, artistic sketches, renderings, calculations, and 2D/3D illustrations
• Quality management
• Prepare technical reports and presentations
• Conduct research to gain further information on a particular design and construction issue and to assess feasibility, environmental impact, and action plans for risk mitigation activities
• Comply with regulatory requirements pertaining to data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, and record compliance and retention
• Support ad hoc functions as requested

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in related field
• 7 years’ experience performing similar work
• EIT or similar training, license, certification
• Ability to make technical computations, renderings, and calculations involving the application of engineering principles; understanding plans and specifications; and making factual comparisons and illustrations to the appropriate regulations
• Ability to review and investigate various aspects of the construction and design of civil infrastructure
• Ability to think critically and solve problems to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from data collation, feedback, statistical analysis, and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution
• Project management experience
• Ability to manage deliverables
• Ability to interface with clients
• Strong communication skills – oral and written.

Preferred Qualifications

• P.E.
• 10 years’ experience performing similar work
• Experience in heavy civil engineering projects with federal funding
• Knowledge of alternative delivery methods

Required Knowledge

• Proficient with Microsoft Products such as Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Visio, Project
• Proficient with design software: MicroStation, AutoCAD, REVIT, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite
• Knowledge of engineering principles, practices, process, and their application to project work-related issues
• Experience with planning, drawing standards, design, and construction management
• Working knowledge of relevant construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements

Salary Range: $175k to $200k per year

Location: San Jose, CA - Five days a week in the office
