Who We NeedThe Integrated Care Medical Assistant is an important member of the primary care team. this position will assist in the provision of medical services under the general clinical supervision of the Primary Care Provider/ Family Nurse Practitioner. The scope of duties and responsibilities include direct patient contact, routine activities such as vital signs monitoring, venipuncture and collection of body fluids for diagnostic purposes, routine preparation of patients for their appointments (vital signs and data collection), assistance in filling out forms and screening tools, updating of demographic information, and other similar tasks. Major non-face to face activities include scheduling of appointments within and outside Copa Health, facilitation of referral to specialists, medication refills and prior authorization assistance, CSPMP data gathering, billing, and collection of documents needed in order to provide the best quality and safe primary care services to Copa Health participants. The PCP/FNP provides clinical supervision to the ICMA-PC. Cross training with Behavioral Health Medical Assistant duties and functions may be required.

JOB SUMMARY (Including, but not limited to):
  • Respect participants and use acceptable recovery-focused language at all times.
  • Assist in making the participant feel comfortable and welcomed.
  • Maintain and develop clinical skills vital to the provision of high quality primary medical care.
  • · Adhere to rules on confidentiality as dictated by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and 42 CFR Part 2.
  • Document services using approved forms following the accepted standards and policies set forth by Copa Health.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of laboratory working areas within acceptable standards.
  • May perform the following medical procedures under the direct supervision of a doctor of medicine or nurse practitioner: a. Take body fluid specimens b. Administer injections specifically vaccinations
  • Take appropriate vital signs (height, weight, blood pressure, pulse rate, pulse oximetry, and temperature) and document this information in timely and appropriately manner. Relay to the supervising provider FNP any findings of abnormal values.
  • Perform venipuncture to draw blood specimens including processing of specimens.
  • Process and send out any blood samples drawn or tissue samples taken to the appropriate referral laboratory.
  • Assists in calling in prescriptions (new and/or refill) for patients per appropriate provider instruction and approval. This may include obtaining prior authorizations.
  • Assist in setting up appointments for specialist referrals and inform the patients of such appointments.
  • Assist the PCP in the completion of documentations of encounters as directed by the PCP.
  • Perform tasks delegated by the PCP-FNP within the State’s Medical Assistant’s scope of duties.
  • Support Copa Health in the goal of advancing recovery of participants through the provision of high quality health care services.
  • Other indirect services such as billing, insurance coverage verifications, and routine telephone reminders for appointments.
  • Adherence to all agency policies, licensure, and training requirements.
  • To ensure compliance & adequate services, additional job duties may be required to meet the needs of the program and or department
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma/GED with two years of direct clinical face-to-face work experience.
  • Completion of an approved Medical Assistantship training program accredited by the Commission of Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), or a medical assisting program accredited by any accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education.
  • Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
  • Must have a fingerprint clearance card issued by the AZ Department of Public Safety or eligible to receive one within eight (8) weeks of hire.
  • TB Test clearance required at the time of hire and annually.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT (This position may include the following situations)

Sitting X  Standing X  Lifting  _15 lbs.__ Typing X  Pushing X Standard work schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00am-5:00pm
