Overview

Summary

The Senior Accountant's responsibilities include preparing financial reports, performing account reconciliations, maintaining the general ledger, assisting with audit preparations, and performing other accounting duties as assigned. The Senior Accountant should have a solid working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and strong financial analysis skills. The Senior Accountant should also possess strong Excel skills, be detail-oriented, highly organized, and be an independent thinker who is comfortable working in a high-volume, fast paced environment.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Manages workflow to ensure all transactions are properly recorded into the general ledger on a timely basis and in the correct period, including the review of journal entries prepared by others
  • Assists in the preparation of monthly financial statements, reports and records by collecting, analyzing and summarizing complex account information while ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP
  • Maintains complex general ledger accruals and balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Investigates and resolves audit findings, account discrepancies, and issues of non-compliance
  • Prepares documentation for external auditors
  • Develops ad hoc financial and operational reporting as needed
  • Mentors Staff Accountants
  • Assists the Accounting Managers as needed
    • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • 4 plus years’ experience in accounting or related field
  • In-depth understanding of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures within accounting, including U.S. GAAP
  • Strong Computer Skills including MS Excel and Word
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking and prioritizing abilities
  • Ability to work independently as well as in team environment
  • Ability to meet deadlines

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

    • CPA preferred
    • Great Plains experience
    • Oracle NetSuite experience
