Position Information:

NWHSU is excited to welcome a new Staff Accountant (Student Accounts) to the Finance team. Reporting to the Controller, responsibilities will include managing and maintaining student accounts and payments, participating in the development and implementation of policies related to administration of student accounts, performing account reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with federal and state guidelines/regulations. This presents an excellent chance to become part of a cooperative finance team, engage closely with various university departments and students, and contribute significantly to accomplishing university objectives while fostering student success.

Work Location: Bloomington, MN with flexibility to work remotely up to 2 days per week; must live locally and be able to come to campus as needed.

Duties:

  • Acts as the primary point person for configuring, maintaining, and supporting student accounts modules and integrated systems. Collaborates with IT as required.
  • Respond to student inquiries regarding payment options and requests of refunds as appropriate.
  • Work with outside collections agencies concerning student account assignments, loan placements, and implementation of collection strategies.
  • Prepare and review all student tax forms in accordance with appropriate federal regulations accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Manage all aspects of the University's Federal Perkins Loan program.
  • Oversee billing processes, account reconciliations, collection, and loan disbursement activities and analysis.
  • Maintain and update accounting systems as necessary.
  • Partner with the CFO on various analysis and projects as needed.

What you need to have?

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent work experience.
  • 1-2 years of accounting experience.
  • Software system billing setup experience, preferred.
  • Student accounts experience, preferred.

  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to analyze and problem solve.
  • Leverage a solution mindset to improve processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organization, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with others in a collaborative, team-based environment.
  • Ability to understand and interpret complex regulations.
  • Ability to analyze and communicate financial data.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Knowledge of Title IV rules and regulations, preferred.
