Surgery Services Coordinator

The surgery services coordinator is responsible for assisting the patient with all aspects of pre-operative preparations in order to promote patient confidence in their medical care and to make the surgical experience as smooth as possible; acts as a liaison between the office, surgical facility, patient, primary care physician, and Shared Care doctor, as applicable.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Acts as an effective liaison between the patient, surgeon, primary care physician, the Shared Care doctor as applicable, and the surgical facility in all aspects of pre-operative preparations.

2. Assists patients’ needs, where applicable.

3. Reviews all scheduled appointments with patients, when needed.

4. Counsels patients regarding all aspects of surgery including eye drop instructions, instructions for day of surgery, and post-operative instructions.

5. Sends appropriate requests to the primary care physician and Shared Care doctor. These include requests for clearance, patient records, exam notes from the post-operative visit if the patient is seen by their Shared Care doctor, and others as indicated.

6. Electronically submits eye drop prescriptions to the pharmacy and provides paper prescriptions when necessary. Follows up on prescription changes, insurance denials, etc.

7. Collects all pertinent information for upcoming surgery, such as bookings, lens orders, insurance, H&Ps, and signed consent forms, and transfers to surgical facility.

8. Answers all telephone inquiries from patients, their families, or primary care physicians and Shared Care doctors concerning surgery and/or related concerns.

9. Performs / confirms testing at the pre-operative appointment.

10. Runs accurate calculations as required, i.e. LASIK, RK, Toric, and other calculations as indicated.

11. Scans and labels all documents to the patient chart in a timely manner.

12. Responds within a timely manner to requests made by the ASC and confirms weekly schedule for surgeon assigned to, being confident that all documents and testing required for surgery are in place prior to the day of surgery.

13. Develops detailed knowledge of lens options so patient questions can be answered accurately when they arise.

14. Is assigned to surgeon(s) and maintains their surgical schedule.

15. Performs other tasks as assigned.
