Position Summary

The Department of Neurology at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York City seeks a talented, highly motivated Data Coordinator with a strong data analysis background. Interest and/or knowledge in population-based design and/or genomic epidemiology is preferred. The candidate will lead data management and analyses of clinical, imaging and genetic data from NIH funded projects related to cerebrovascular contribution to dementia.

Primarily, the incumbent will work on ongoing data analyses resulting from various NIH funded grants focused on vascular contribution to dementia and stroke. Our lab leverages various databases that include NY-state data repositories, publicly available datasets and locally-generated dataset from longstanding population-based cohorts to test out hypotheses. We often leverage two or more cohort in some analyses for the purpose of data replication. Key activities will include data cleaning, coordination, harmonization, and analysis. Strong coding abilities in R and SAS are encouraged.

The incumbent will report directly to the Principal Investigator and the leading statistician in the lab. The incumbent will assist in RedCap and SAS database management and analysis, data coordination, data quality control, development and preparation of manuscripts and scientific presentations, data analyses, and other reporting duties. The incumbent will perform other related duties as assigned. This position offers opportunities for additional training in epidemiologic and genomic analysis, as well as scientific publishing


Responsibilities

Perform data analysis, interpretation, and reporting of results (manuscripts, presentations, posters). - 70%

Maintain research databases (including design, implementation, data cleaning, harmonization, and visualization), maintain database dictionaries and modification logs. - 10%

Develop policies, procedures, and standards relating to database management. - 5%

Develop and prepare regular data quality reports. - 5%

Coordinating with other study stakeholders on achievement of grant implementation milestones. - 5%

Perform other related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested - 5%


Minimum Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education, training, and experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or equivalent in data science or applied biostatistics. In addition, master degree or above in epidemiology or public health could be considered.
  • Must be able to independently learn new skills required for data management.
  • Strong qualitative and quantitative research skills including proficiency in statistical software such as R, REDCap, STATA, SPSS, SAS or other major statistical packages
  • Familiarity with data visualization and harmonization.
  • Familiarity with genomic data analysis.
  • Experience in database development and management.
  • Excellent understanding of data administration and management functions (collection, analysis, distribution etc.)
  • Problem solving skills and ability to think algorithmically.
  • Detail-oriented, with superior organizational, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, and the ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality and diplomacy at all times.
