Columbia Hospitality is Hiring a General Manager | The Ashi (Executive Search) Near Brunswick, NJ

General Manager | The Ashi Hotel
The Ashi Hotel is seeking a General Manager to lead the way at this up-and-coming boutique hotel and one-of-a-kind event space in North Brunswick, NJ. Our ideal candidate has a strong background in hotel openings, a proven track record in events management, and exceptional leadership skills.
Position Summary:
Functions as the primary strategic business leader of the hotel with responsibility for all aspects of the hotel’s operations, including but not limited to, strategic planning, budgeting and forecasting, all food and beverage outlets, guest and employee satisfaction, human resources, sales and marketing, housekeeping, and maintenance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Trains, develops and motivates staff to meet and exceed established budget goals and strategic objectives.
  • Executes business plans designed to maximize customer satisfaction, profitability, and market share.
  • Responsible for the preparation, presentation and subsequent achievement of the hotel's annual Forecast, Operating Budget, Marketing & Sales Plan and Capital Budget. This includes a strong understanding of P&L statements and the ability to react with impactful strategies.
  • Works closely with Sales, Marketing and the Room teams to develop revenue generating strategies for the hotel. Ensures sales and marketing strategy is aligned with hotel strategy and is effectively executed against established goals.
  • Oversee the hotel’s revenue management strategy. This includes forecasting, conducting variance analysis and making recommendations to improve business performance on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
  • Oversees and directs Food and Beverage teams to execute against established goals to include revenue generation and expense control. Assumes role of hotel Ambassador in establishing and maintaining influential local business relationships for the purposes of supporting the Sales effort in generating hotel leads for Food and Beverage events.
  • Reviews business related data such as market share, financial performance, inventory, employee engagement, and customer satisfaction. Analyzes business information to proactively address changing market conditions. Uses business information to identify indicators of product and service successes and opportunities for improvement.
  • Stays current with industry trends and monitors strengths and weakness of competition; explores new business opportunities; develops business plans designed to maximize property customer satisfaction, profitability, and market share.
  • Display exceptional leadership by providing a positive work environment, counselling employees as appropriate and demonstrating a dedicated and professional approach to management. Create a culture of staff inclusion, integrity and a sense of pride in ownership through earned empowerment amongst all staff.
  • Provide direction for all day-to-day operations of the hotel.
  • Provides guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance.
  • Provides and supports service behaviours that are above and beyond for customer satisfaction and retention.
  • Interacts with guests to obtain feedback and influence repeat patronage.
  • The position is actively involved in the local community and builds strong relationships with local officials, businesses, and customers.
  • Ensures hotel is in compliance with local and federal laws as well as Ascend brand product and service standards
  • Performs additional duties as requested by the hotel management company or hotel ownership
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Minimum of three years of progressive management experience in lodging/hospitality industry.
  • Strong food & beverage experience
  • Effective management, leadership, organizational and communication skills
  • A proven track record of outstanding guest service resulting in repeat patronage
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and team building skills
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of food and beverage planning, production, presentation/service and control
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective operating and control processes designed to attain maximum operating efficiency
  • Skillful in project planning/tasks and able to prioritize projects/tasks
  • Highly organized, efficient and effective at multi-tasking
  • Accepts direction and executes with timely efficiency
Starting Salary at $100,000
The individual selected for the role of General Manager will be employed by The Emporio by Ashi Hotel, and will have no affiliation with Columbia Hospitality, who is serving as a third-party agent leading the search through Columbia Executive Search.
