City Teaching Alliance is Hiring an Executive Director, Baltimore Near Baltimore, MD

About City Teaching Alliance 

Our mission is to improve educational and life outcomes of children in urban schools by preparing culturally responsive, effective career educators who accelerate student achievement and disrupt systems of racial and socioeconomic inequity. City Teaching Alliance accomplishes this by recruiting outstanding candidates, equipping them with state-of-the-art training, and linking their certification to their demonstration of effective teaching practices and skills. Overview

The Executive Director will oversee all aspects of implementing the City Teaching Alliance program in Baltimore, collaborating with various internal teams and external partners to ensure that City Teaching Alliance is the premier teacher preparation pathway in the region. This position reports to the Chief Program Officer.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

District and State Partnerships

  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships with district, charter, and state partners
  • Ensure annual resident placement targets are met through regular communication and progress reports with site directors and Local Education Agency (LEA) leaders
  • Oversee renewal of partnership agreements with LEA and state partners
  • Ensure execution of a high-quality program through compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships with City Teaching Alliance’s institution of higher education (IHE) partner leadership and ensure positive representation of IHE in the region
  • Lead efforts to identify and respond to areas of partner and cohort concern, if applicable
  • Lead strategic efforts to identify and respond to community needs and opportunities across the region
  • Serve as the final decision point and emergency contact for school-based partners
  • Develop and execute placement strategy aligned with each school partner’s ability to enact our program model components at their site
  • Oversee communication with district and charter partners about City Teaching Alliance’s data collection requirements and accountability expectations

Development, External Engagement, and Financial Stewardship

  • Support the Development team in the identification and cultivation of potential funding sources from individual, corporate and foundation donors
  • Accelerate and raise brand awareness by participating in events, expanding partnerships, and promoting the mission and vision of the organization
  • Oversee the implementation of communication and marketing that best represents the site and engages current and potential City Teaching Alliance supporters
  • Represent City Teaching Alliance externally, with the ability to tailor messaging for various audiences
  • Effectively develop, revise, and manage the site budget
  • Oversee creation, renewal, and invoicing of LEA partnership agreements

Cohort Quality and Relationships

  • Support local recruitment and selection efforts to ensure resident recruitment targets are met and residents experience a smooth transition to the site
  • Oversee adherence to teacher policies, requirements, and expectations and determine when teachers are in violation and should be considered for dismissal
  • Lead efforts identify and respond to areas of teacher concern
  • Sustain a cohort that experiences no more than 20% attrition from residency to fellow year
  • Lead strategic efforts to meet teacher effectiveness and career teacher retention goals
  • Lead the development and implementation of a teacher engagement and support strategy in service of resident, fellow, and alumni retention and satisfaction

Team Leadership and Development

  • Recruit and select people for the team who align to City Teaching Alliance’s mission, vision, and values and demonstrate relevant technical skills and experience
  • Manage and support a high-performing team
  • Collaborate with direct reports to set SMARTIE (specific, measurable, actionable, relevant, timebound, inclusive, equitable) goals yearly and monitor progress
  • Clearly delegate work and clarify roles when necessary
  • Conduct individual check-ins with your direct reports at least bi-weekly that they facilitate with your guidance
  • Share information with direct reports transparently
  • Coach, support, and hold direct reports accountable for their impact in their role and on culture through City Teaching Alliance performance management guidelines and policies
  • Foster an inclusive, positive, and equitable culture, modeling City Teaching Alliance’s values
  • Ensure site-level decisions and programmatic goals are informed by and responsive to data results, and examined through an equity lens
  • Lead site-level evaluation and discussion of data to identify and respond to areas of opportunity and/or patterns of inequity

Organizational Stewardship

In addition to the key responsibilities noted above, you will be asked to participate in activities that serve to support the organization overall. Some examples of these activities include:

  • Final interview days
  • Working groups and committees
  • Recruitment initiatives
  • All-staff retreat planning and facilitation

Target Start Date: July 2024

Location: Baltimore, MD and surrounding area

Time Commitment & Compensation: $145,782- $160,200 & is subject to a geographic differential which could increase or decrease it by 4% or 8% depending on city of residence. We are an anti-racist organization that prioritizes equity so we do not negotiate salaries.

Qualifications 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and engage diverse stakeholders
  • Knowledge of the K-12 education landscape, including current trends, challenges, and opportunities
  • Visionary leadership with a strategic mindset and the ability to navigate complex challenges
  • Commitment to ongoing knowledge-seeking, reflection, and action to deliberately oppose racism. An active ally who pursues justice in the communities in which City Teaching Alliance operates
  • Experience in program management, design, evaluation, and stakeholder engagement within the education sector
  • Demonstrated success in fiscally responsible and strategic fundraising and financial management is highly preferred
