ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN I
DEFINITION:
Under the direction of the Finance Manager, performs assigned intermediate accounting work for the Finance
Division of the City Administrative Services Department and performs related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This position requires the ability to work effectively in a busy environment with multiple distractions and
demonstrate flexibility, versatility and attention to detail in the performance of intermediate level accounting
work within the Finance Division of Administrative Services. Must possess a considerable degree of tact,
mature professional judgment and high degree of organization, attention to detail and ability to work within
strict time frames.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
Process customer utility payments, business license applications and account receivable payments;
Process requests for new and discontinued utility services;
Billing and collection of accounts receivable in accordance with established guidelines;
Process accounts payable in accordance with the policies and procedures;
Prepare and modify documents including correspondence, spreadsheets, reports, drafts, memos and emails;
Prepare financial reports and statements as needed;
Reconcile subsidiary accounts to the general ledger;
Process travel requests;
Issuance of purchase orders;
Maintain City vendor accounts;
Provide back up support for the Account Tech II and Finance Manager including, but not limited to, assisting
with payroll, daily closing and reconciliations;
Training of Account Technicians.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
License or Certificate:
Valid California Driver’s License Class “C.”
Physical Requirements:
Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting and turning, kneeling,
bending, squatting, crouching and stooping in the performance of daily activities; grasping, repetitive
hand movement and fine coordination in preparing reports and documents using a computer
keyboard; near vision in reading correspondence and documents and viewing a computer screen
throughout the day; work in a noisy environment with multiple distractions; operate a variety of
office equipment such as a calculator, computer and typewriter. Acute hearing is required when
providing telephone service and communicating in person; ability to lift, drag and push files,
computer reports or other materials weighing up to twenty pounds.
