In 2023 Seattle Center expanded its role to serve as the City’s lead department for operating Seattle’s new Waterfront Park, a series of new public spaces on Seattle’s downtown waterfront between Pioneer Square and the Seattle Aquarium. Seattle Center has built a Waterfront Operations team providing maintenance, public safety and strategic planning and oversight for the operations of the new waterfront, leveraging Seattle Center’s experience successfully managing public space. Seattle Center is working in partnership with the non-profit Friends of Waterfront Seattle, which is responsible to provide a range of recreational and cultural programming to the community in the new Waterfront Park. In our first year we have grown Seattle Center’s team by 20% to meet this new opportunity, building out a unified team to support both Seattle Center and the new Waterfront Park. That team will continue to grow in to be ready for the park’s completion in 2025.
 
About this position:
We are seeking a qualified electrician to join our facilities team. This position will work closely with other trade leads and among the public to provide production support of events as well as regular facility maintenance. 
 
The work requires a journey level knowledge of electrical concepts, principles, methods and codes and a full knowledge of the operational aspects of both electrical equipment and systems.Here is more of what you will be doing:
  • Diagnose and repair malfunctions in electrical equipment or control systems such as boilers, pumps, motors, generators, air compressors, fire alarms, refrigerators, overhead doors, electrical equipment on bridges or other electrical devices
  • Install, repair and maintain all electrical systems under the direction of the electrical crew chief
  • Teamwork and clear, concise, communication with staff, venue operators and the public are essential for safe and efficient operations
  • Troubleshoot systems which include some electronics
  • Install lighting fixtures, power outlets, control devices, heaters, thermostats, computer cables or cathodic protection equipment
  • Run conduit and pull wire for new and/or existing electrical installations
  • Modify or rewire existing electrical installations
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on electrical and electronic equipment
  • Purchase and/or order electrical supplies or parts from vendors, warehouse or distributors
  • Review blueprints, electrical schematics, project plans and specifications of electrical equipment installations
  • Replace ballasts, drivers & fuses, changes lamps in LED, fluorescent, HID and incandescent lighting fixtures
  • Install temporary power systems for special events
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires completion of an accepted four-year apprenticeship training program and journey-level electrician status (or an equivalent combination of education and/or training and/or experience).
 The ideal candidate possesses experience in the following areas:
  • State of Washington, (EL01) - Journey Level, Electrical License
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other work units and clients
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current electrical systems, including a working knowledge of computerized lighting and control systems
  • Strong communication skills both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to assess and plan work tasks and provide progress reports
  • Ability to navigate computer-based email, time keeping, materials management, work order management system and progress reporting
  • Monitor and communicate clear and concise on phones and VHF radios
  • Highly motivated to fulfill the high standards of the Seattle Center maintenance division
  • Excellent customer service skills and experience
  • Knowledge and skill in observing safety issues and requirements
  • Continuing history of industry development
 License, Certification and Other Requirements:
  • Washington State Driver's license
 Work Environment/Physical Demands: 
  • Stand, walk, or bend for extended periods of time
  • Lift objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds
  • Work outdoors in all types of weather
  • Work in confined spaces or at heights from ladders and scaffolds
  • The shop operates 7 days a week, 18 hours per day, requiring staff to participate in off-shift work

How to Apply:

The full pay range for this step-progression position is $52.09 - $56.34 per hour. New employees begin at Step 1 of the pay progression, which is $52.09 hourly. Current City employees’ starting rate of pay will be based on Personnel Rules regarding promotions.

Current City of Seattle Employees in a driving position may be required to submit an updated abstract.

Pre-Employment Physical - Successful candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment physical.
