City of Olivette is Hiring a Building Maintenance Technician Near St. Louis, MO

BUILDING MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

Parks & Recreation | Full Time/Non-exempt

Summary

This position performs intermediate skilled work for regular cleaning, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs on City building systems and equipment, and related work as assigned. This position performs manual work of routine difficulty involving moderate physical exertion, frequent lifting and moving of heavy equipment, and occasional non‐routine and weekend hours. This is a 40 hour per week position with full benefits.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Develops a cleaning and maintenance plan for Five Oaks on Warson, with consideration given to daily and preventative maintenance as well as emergency repairs.
  • Responsible for all cleaning tasks at Five Oaks on Warson and other city facilities as needed.
  • Monitors outside contract cleaning vendor and provides regular reports to supervisor.
  • Sets up and takes down equipment for meetings, special events and recreation programs.
  • Operates heavy to light equipment and tools including power washers, floor scrubbers, steam cleaners, air compressors, scissor‐lifts, washer/dryers, and hand tools.
  • Performs routine cleaning, sanitizing, recycling, stocking, plant watering, and painting.
  • Removes snow and litter from building entrance and sidewalks.
  • Responsible for inspecting building for safety hazards and correcting and/or notifying supervisor as needed.
  • May be responsible for opening and/or closing the building as needed.
  • Responsible for maintenance and inventory of supplies and equipment used to clean facility and assist with supply ordering.
  • Keeps supervisor informed on building physical facility conditions, equipment maintenance calendar, and scheduled service requirements.
  • Compiles reports and completes paperwork as required.
  • Communicates with and schedules work by outside vendors for routine and emergency repairs.
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe environment for self, co-workers, and customers.
  • Provides excellent customer service to co-workers, contractors, instructors, vendors, customers, and visitors.

Reports to: Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of tools, equipment and material used in an assigned work area.
  • Knowledge of general cleaning practices, and safety practices and guidelines
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently without routine supervision.
  • Ability to assess the assigned work and determine necessary tools and supplies to complete the tasks.
  • Ability to exercise care to avoid accidents.
  • Ability to perform strenuous activities under adverse weather conditions such as removal of snow or litter outdoors.
  • Ability to communicate and interpret both oral and written information effectively.
  • Skilled in working as part of a team.
  • Skilled in reading and comprehending simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos, and writing simple correspondence electronically and on paper.
  • Skilled in basic mathematics: adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing, using fractions and decimals; and computing ratios and percentages.
  • Skilled in using a smartphone for communication and business tasks including texting, calling, calendar scheduling, and the taking and sending of photos.

Requirements:

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one by date of hire.
  • Must pass a background check, pre-employment medical exam/drug screen.
  • Must be able to work weekdays on a regular basis, and occasionally on evenings and weekends as needed for City events, programs, and extreme weather events.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required and five years’ experience working in any combination of general construction, janitorial, repair, maintenance, equipment operation in a community center, hospital, park, school or university, military, and/or public works setting.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and/or frequently move or carry twenty-five (25) pounds, ability to occasionally lift and/or move more than fifty (50) pounds.
  • Ability to exert physical effort for extended periods in performing manual labor in extreme temperatures.
  • Ability to walk, stand or kneel, stoop, reach and twist, and crouch for extended periods of time.
