City of Norfolk, VA is Hiring an Administrative Technician Near Norfolk, VA

Description

The City of Norfolk Department of Public Works is currently seeking an Administrative Technician within the Division of Streets & Bridges. The Administrative Technician will be responsible for ensuring quality control for all data entered in the computerized work management system, Lucity. This position will perform administrative duties by answering and directing telephone inquiries from both internal and external customers, typing, compiling data, and keeping logs for reports, filing documents, processing various reports, maintaining files and other duties as assigned to support the division.
The Department of Public Works builds, maintains, and operates the physical facilities that support and enhance the lives of Norfolk’s citizens, businesses, and visitors, including the City’s Street Network, Storm Water System and Waste Management and Recycling Systems. The Department is comprised of 8 divisions that function collectively to make your commute safe and efficient, your neighborhood more attractive, and the streets and sidewalks clean and well-maintained.


Departmental Hiring Salary Range: $39,837 - $45,812.55

Essential Functions

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

  • Compiles performance indicator data utilizing the Lucity program system. Responsible for ensuring all data is entered accurately and in a timely manner. Produces performance indicator reports to be used by management for funding reimbursement, maintenance decisions, and regulatory compliance.
  • Oversees the Lucity and MyNorfolk systems by tracking and processing work requests and work orders. Reconciles both systems.
  • Performs administrative duties by researching data to resolve complaints, compiling data for audits, typing, and keeping logs for reports, filing documents, processing various reports, and maintaining files.
  • Answers and directs telephone inquiries from both internal and external customers.
  • Greets visitors and represents the organization in a professional manner.
  • Processes and distributes mail.
  • Performs emergency weather recovery by providing administrative and clerical support to the operational staff during emergency operation. Must be able to work assigned shifts.
  • Supports staff with other administrative and clerical duties as requested or assigned.
  • Operates computer, calculator, copy machine, facsimile machine, and multi-line telephone. Must have good Microsoft Office suite skills including excel, outlook, and word.
  • Requires the ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Requires normal hearing and seeing capabilities. Work will require long hours in front of a computer screen. Must be able to stand, bend, lift, reach, and stoop to maintain files.
  • Requires valid driver’s license. The applicant must provide a copy of Division of Motor Vehicles driving record (obtained within last 30 days) upon request.

Education/Experience

Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with six months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency. Junior college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.
Two years clerical experience.
Preferred Education/Experience:
Experience using Lucity Work Management System is desired.

Additional Information & Requirements

Must possess valid driver’s license. Must provide a copy of Division of Motor Vehicles driving record (obtained within last 30 days) during the interview.
Work Hours: Monday – Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; 40 hours per week every week
Signing Bonus: This position is eligible for a one-time $5000 sign on bonus
