GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Under general supervision, this position provides ongoing case management services and monitors the
care, discipline, supervision, safety and security of juveniles assigned to Community Programs within
the Department of Juvenile Services. Reports to a Juvenile Services Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Serves as an assigned liaison for juveniles entered into court-mandated community outreach programs
within the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ). Conducts initial interviews of participants; initiates
and processes required documentation; provides program orientation and expectations for monitoring
and reporting based on individual program reporting requirements. Maintains documentation of all
contacts and communications. Prepares court reports for referring agencies or sources prior to the
juvenile’s court date(s).
Conducts case management functions to include home visits and/or onsite supervision to monitor,
observe and report on juveniles. Interacts daily with Probation Officers, Court Clerks, parents, and
others. Provides stabilization through predictable structures, clear expectations and positive behavior
support. Participates in assessment, goal setting and program planning which may include individual
support plans. Intervenes in crisis situations; recommends behavior modifications and enforces
appropriate actions to include meeting with referral sources. Maintains documentation to track
individual progress during program participation.
Plans, coordinates or schedules group activities including educational, cultural, and social activities
related to the specific program. Supports individuals to function with restrictions in their own homes;
may provide guidance regarding daily life skills, social skills and behavior management.
On call as necessary to maintain overnight compliance for Virginia Juvenile Community Crime Control
Act (VJCCCA) grant participants. Testifies in court when subpoenaed.
Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Counseling or closely related field and 1-2 years
related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
An acceptable comprehensive background investigation to include a local, state, and sex offender
criminal history check, credit check as well as FBI Fingerprinting; a valid driver’s license with an
acceptable driving record.
This position requires a pre-employment medical evaluation, PPD, and substance abuse testing and is
subject to random alcohol and controlled substance testing.
Individuals in this job classification cannot be listed as having a founded child abuse or neglect
complaint.
