City of Melbourne, FL is Hiring a Golf Course Attendant Near Melbourne, FL

Description

Under the general supervision of the Sr. Pro Shop Attendant/Clubhouse Supervisor, will perform a variety of duties involving the operation of the clubhouse facility. Performs assigned tasks that include: cashier in the pro shop, cart attendant, ranger, starter, and food and beverage duties. Work is performed with considerable independence within established policies, rules, regulations, and guidelines. Position requires discretion and diplomatic skills in representing policies and working effectively with city personnel, officials and the public. Work is reviewed through observation. Performs other work as requested. Must be flexible and available to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Examples of Duties

  • Opens the pro shop/restaurant for daily operations and/or closes the pro shop/restaurant at the completion of the workday.
  • Verifies tee times and payment of appropriate fees. Aids in operation of the automated tee time system.
  • Collects green fees, cart fees, annual play fees and other revenues.
  • Greets golfers upon entry to Pro Shop. Answers questions and inquiries from the public in person and over the phone; deals with complaints.
  • Sells Pro Shop Merchandise.
  • Assisting the Senior Pro Shop Attendant with scheduling and overseeing temporary staff employees.
  • Cooking, serving, and bartending in the restaurant, operating the beverage cart (small machine), and serving from the beverage cart.
  • Set up the driving range for that day’s use. Fills range ball baskets or ball dispensing machine when necessary.
  • Operates golf ball retrieval equipment (small machine with ball picker attachment) on the driving range when necessary.
  • Maintain water coolers on course. Must be able to lift a 5-gallon water cooler.
  • Picks up trash on course and around clubhouse.
  • Cleans, stages and returns electric golf carts as needed for rentals, daily use and charging.
  • Performs routine inspection of electric golf carts, which included water level in batteries, tire pressure, and operational integrity for safety.
  • Controls the start of play and flow of play on the golf course.
  • Enforces rules relating to golf course etiquette, attire and behavior.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of one 1 year golf/clubhouse/retail related experience in a pro shop or retail setting with cash handling duties and working with the public/customer service.
  • General Food and Beverage experience, including cooking, serving, and bartending.
Licenses, Certifications or Registrations:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida driver’s license. Applicants who possess a valid out of state driver’s license must obtain the Florida driver’s license within 10 days of employment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to deal with the public tactfully and courteously.
  • Knowledge of the techniques, rules, and regulations of golf.
  • Knowledge of golf equipment as pertains to sales.
  • Ability to effectively merchandise pro shop inventory.
  • Effective oral and written communication.
  • Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with the public.
  • Ability to perform a variety of accounting procedures.
  • Ability to operate a cash register, computer, and telephone, and handle monies properly.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
  • Operate motor vehicles (i.e., pick-up, van, etc.); load or unload vehicles with objects weighing no more than 50 lbs. without assistance.
  • Learn complex tasks and remember how to complete tasks without assistance once trained.
  • Hear and understand conversation in a normal tone of voice. Use of senses, which include sight, smell, hearing, and touch as aids in the evaluation and troubleshooting of malfunctioning equipment.
  • See and read letters, numbers, words, characters or symbols, which are both large and small, as well as identify colors.
  • Print and draw letters, numbers, words, characters and symbols -must be legible and understood by others. Use small hand tools - dexterity required.
  • Move back and forth and sideways while in a bending, kneeling, or squatting position.
  • Stay in a bending, kneeling, or squatting position for periods less than 10 minutes.
  • Go from a standing or sitting position to a bending, kneeling, or squatting position, or vice versa, periodically.
  • Walk, stand, and sit for periods longer than 30 minutes. Walk continuously for more than 5 minutes at a time.
  • Lift, carry, push or pull items, which weigh up to 50 lbs. without assistance over uneven terrain, up/down stairs or ladders.
  • Carry items for a distance, which ranges from 10 ft. to no more than 300 yds.
  • Lift and/or carry items, which are considered awkward to grasp or hold on to.
  • Lift items (weighing less than 40 pounds) above the head or down from over the head.
  • Hold items (weighing between 1 - 10 pounds) for a period less than 10 minutes.
  • Work at night in dimly lit conditions as necessary and during inclement weather.
  • Frequent deadlines under pressure, continuous and close attention for accurate results.
  • Must remain flexible and give great attention to priorities.
