City of Fort Lauderdale is Hiring a SECURITY GUARD (Part-Time: 15 - 25 hours/week) Near City Wide, FL

The City of Fort Lauderdale employees possess a passion for public service demonstrated by a high degree of enthusiasm, self-reliance, and job proficiency. This is part-time (typically 15 - 25 hours/week) security and customer service work of routine difficulty in patrolling and safeguarding multiple offices and/or assigned areas and providing customer service and information to the public. An employee in this class is responsible for patrolling office buildings and grounds in various locations (typically near City Hall at 101 NE 3rd Ave. Fort Lauderdale, FL in downtown Fort Lauderdale) to guard and prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry. Possible work shifts (typically 4 or more hours) are on various days Monday – Friday at varying times between the hours of 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. Please note: Shift days and times may vary from week to week.
All work shifts are subject to change based on any changing needs for this part-time position.
NOTE: The duties of this position will include all of those duties set forth in the official job description.
This position will remain open until a sufficient number of qualified applications have been received.

This is a part-time "at-will" position and is not subject to Civil Service Rules or any collective bargaining agreement.
Essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation. The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. The omission of a function does not preclude management from assigning essential duties not listed herein if such duties relate to the position. 
 
  • Patrols an assigned area in and around City garages; secures doors and windows; reports fire hazards and other security issues
  • Performs surveillance of City property by observing television monitors and responding to incidents observed
  • Reports disturbances or suspicious circumstances which require police presence
  • Operate communication systems, such as assigned radios and other security related equipment
  • Writes incident reports as necessary on unusual security issues
  • Provides customer service and information to the public
  • Removes debris/cleans up any trash or materials which may create a safety hazard 
  • Performs related work as required
  1. High school diploma or G.E.D.
  2. Up to one (1) year of related experience including some security and customer service work.
  3. Must be able to work up to 25 hours per week on various days Monday – Friday, which may vary from week to week, at varying times between the hours of 8:00 am to 8:00 pm; typically shifts will consist of 4 or more hours. All work shifts are subject to change based on any changing needs for this part-time position.
PREFERENCES:
1. Prior security guard and/or customer service experience, preferably for a government entity.
2. Proficient in Microsoft Outlook.
3. The ability to communicate in various languages is a plus.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: 
Essential Employees may be required to work during a declared emergency. The employee's Department Head will determine who will be required to work.

PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Employees will walk or stand for extended periods of time. The position involves medium physical demands, such as exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
 
Ability to lift, carry, climb, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, walk, push, pull, grasp, stand and access heights or areas where limited space is available.
